Of course, this link is broken.  It's ALWAYS something with Dell!!

I have been trying to simply take a picture of my web cam and have been working on it for hours!  Does anyone know how to do this on Win 7??

My Inspiron 1545 laptop runs Windows Vista. After several years, I realised that the webcam no longer worked. I tried downloading the driver from the Dell website but got an error on installation (the exact same error that everyone else gets).

I sent my laptop away for repair under a support contract twice (four wasted trips to PC World and several phone calls). The first time, they replaced the bezel and didn't even test the webcam, which still didn't work! The second time, they reinstalled Windows Vista and restored the laptop to its factory configuration, which allowed the webcam to work for approximately one day until Windows updates were installed.

Do not waste days of your life on Dell's web site, installing Webcam Central (irrelevant) or worthless 'PC doctor' or 'fix it' software from Dell or Microsoft. The ONLY thing which solves this problem is to physically open the laptop, unplug the webcam, plug it back in, and let Windows detect 'new' hardware. I wish I had done this in the first place. I want all those hours of my life back.

Did you recently install/reinstall the operating system? If yes, did you install the drivers in the correct order? How to Download and Install Drivers in the Correct Order

Windows 7/8 is supposed to provide the webcam drivers for most Dell computers. If you system needs webcam drivers, go to Drivers & Downloads enter your service tag, then select your operating system. If your system needs webcam drivers, they'll be listed under Input.

Create a new unrestricted user account and try the webcam. Did the webcam work?

If yes, log out and log back in to your account and try the webcam. Did the webcam work?

If no, then the webcam became detached from the motherboard, usually near the webcam

If your computer is under warranty, contact Dell Tech Support

Windows 7/8 se supone que proporcionan los controladores de cámara web para PC de Dell. Si su sistema necesita drivers de la webcam, vaya a Controladores y descargas escriba su etiqueta de servicio, seleccione el sistema operativo.
