I ordered a Studio 17 (i7) on December 10th or so. It arrived two days ago. It was working great until I opened it up yesterday and logged on, as I had done many times already. It then pretty much just froze. No mouse input, nothing changing in Windows, etc. So I turned it off.
You're going to have to call tech support. I'm not an expert but it sounds like a problem with the motherboard.
If the screen/resolution is important to you and you have the 1080p screen then I would have Dell fix it. If you have the 900p screen then I would return it and order another 1747 or the 1749. I would go for the 1749 since it has a better video card.
The resolution is important to me. I do a large amount of static and dynamic graphics and video editing.
When I try to enter my Service Tag on on the Dell Support site when choosing the "Call Technical Support" option, it says that my Service Tag is invalid. When I try to start a "chat" with an agent, it says my purchase was made outside of the United States.
I've tried this multiple times. My system's sticker very clearly reads: "Service Tag: ." I'm not entering it incorrectly.
What the hell? No records of my SERVICE TAG, DELL?
You will need your Express Service Code. It is the long numbers on the white tag. No letters in it, just numbers. It helps to route your call to the right place. But last time I called it did the same thing with my code. Didn't cause any problems with tech support though.
It takes a few days for their system to update with new service tags. I have no idea why. It should happen at the same time the tag is attached to the computer.
Yes, it most definitely should happen when the tags are issued. That seems like a major flaw; by the nature of a 'new computer', problems are almost more likely to arise then, than they are later on.
