Did you push the Input Select button (the second one from the left, with the minus sign) on the front of the 1901FP?

I had the same problem.  My Dell 1703FP monitor would not even come on when the DVI cable was hooked up, but it worked fine with the Analog cable.  I searched Dell's web site for hours, and found plenty of others with the same problem, but no solution posted.  So, I called Dell's tech support.  The person I got was VERY helpful.  Here's what he told me to do.

Unplug the monitor's power cable for 10 sec, then plug back in.  Press the middle of the 2 buttons on the lower right corner of the monitor.  That switched it from "Analog" mode to "Digital" mode.  So, that's what fixed my problem.  VERY BAD documentation Dell, but VERY good tech support.
