You write " the keyboard lights come on for about 3-4 seconds" : The combination of the keyboard light is the POST code indicating why it's not starting BIOS.
POST = Power On Self Test.
To test if POST is alive, remove all RAM memory - POST code should be equal to "no memory installed".
Re-insert only half of the memory, then try again. Repeat with other half of the memory.
If either one un-zombies your laptop it's bad memory.
Hi there. I just tried what you recommended and no luck. The laptop behaves the same exact way with the same lights flashing on the keyboard then shutting down 3-4 seconds later. FYI, the lights that are coming on on the keyboard status panel are the 10-key, the caps lock and the one with the down arrow (shift lock?).
If i was in your shoes, i'd decide to take stuff apart. So remove HD, WIFI card, BT card, CD/DVD, battery till it's as barebone as possible. Then try again.
if in this state still nothing, reseat the CPU / GPU.
If still nothing, clean the mobo carefully and try again.

If i was in your shoes, i'd decide to take stuff apart. So remove HD, WIFI card, BT card, CD/DVD, battery till it's as barebone as possible. Then try again.
if in this state still nothing, reseat the CPU / GPU.
If still nothing, clean the mobo carefully and try again.

If the HD was the problem, would it allow me to get to the BIOS screen if i disconnected it?

Most likely, to fix the problem - you will need to replace the mainboard.
