My Terrible Dell Experience (thus far)

This is a rant.  A justified rant.  I bought a Dell netbook via their site on Monday.  I am leaving the country for business early next week and I need something portable and and lightweight.  The whole reason why I bought a Dell was because they advertise a special offer where they will have certain computer models to you within 48 hours.  Great, I thought. My computer was supposed to be delivered today.  When it wasnt, I logged into their site to see where in transit my computer was.  Turns out that my computer wasn't in transit.  Turns out that my order was cancelled.  Turns out they neglected to inform me of this.  How nice. So I call them up.  I spend the next 90 minutes or so talking to about seven other people.  I say 'about' because honestly, once you get past five or so customer service reps with barely understandable english, you sort of lose count.  I was given two different direct lines to call.  One, the entire office was in a meeting and nobody could help me.  Another, who I was assured could help me, transfered me a couple times, finally dumping me off on a woman who said she would help and that she would call me back within 30 minutes.  Yeah, she obvously never called back. The closest I got to anybody explaining what the issue was is when somebody told me that there was a problem with my credit card.  I don't know what the problem could be but I paid with a debit card and I can see when Dell took the money out of my account and then when they put it back in.  There was plenty of money in the account the entire time.  Whatever the issue was, it was on Dell's end, not mine. I've wasted close to three hours of my day today trying to resolve something that should not have been a problem.  I hate to be all self rightous but honestly, my time is valuable and I should not have to dedicate much of my working to resolving this.  I need this computer, and I need it ASAP.  I need it for this trip I am leaving on (a research trip for a book/magazine feature I'm writing for a nationally distributed publication....I can assure you at this moment, Dell will NOT be recieving favorable coverage).  My demands are simple: that I be sent the computer that I had originally ordered and paid for.  Is this so difficult? Given the short time frame you have for getting the computer up and running before you leave, you are probably better off buying from a bricks-and-mortar retailer.

Honestly, the logic of some people defy me. [shaking head]

Then he spends time trying to find out from Dell why his order was cancelled. Must not have been in *that* much of a hurry. Why bother?
