I just tried the Alps touchpad driver and had the same problem. I would assume that its something else affecting the touchpad or 2 faulty touchpad's in a row. If it is 2 faulty touchpads in a row it says a lot about the quality of Dell.
Figured it out, its a hardware issue. I exchanged it for my 3rd Dell Studio Laptop and it works fine. To prove its a hardware issue squeeze the laptop from the top and bottom right below the 2 touchpad buttons and the touchpad will work fine.
You will have to exchange it to get it to work. Good luck. Let me know if that works out for you.
Same laptop. Same problem. I saw a review about this laptop that also alluded to this issue. I still can not find any solution and it is driving me crazy. This is my first Dell laptop and I'm not impressed.
Please reply to this post if you find anything, I'll do the same.
How far past are you? I would try talking to a manager there and explain that it is a hardware issue and offer to let the geek squad troubleshoot it. If you play your cards right they should exchange it (as long as you are pretty close to the 14 days).
I hope so. I have the exact same problem with the touchpad not responding after using it for 2 minutes on a Dell 1569 Studio I purchased from Best Buy as part of their Blue Label Bundle a couple of days ago.
I have never purchased a laptop that has had a problem like this from day one. I tried turning off all the useless zoom and scroll functions on the touchpad options menu. No help. It was not fixed by Dell technical support who basically ran a hardware diagnostics, then updated the driver for the touchpad. No difference. Then they suggested I take it back to get replaced at Best Buy. I'm thinking I return it and wait until other laptops are able to use the Netgear Push2tv, which was the main reason I went with this laptop. I have had a Dell before and never had issues like this... Sorry but this should not be the case with a $1000 laptop.
No, there will no patch because it is a hardware issue. Trust me. I am 100% sure. Exchange it. My first 2 had the same issue. When I would apply pressure near hte touchpad it would work flawlessly. When I took the pressure away it started going crazy.
Tthis is deja vu. On my second one and still have some problems. No more in stock at the Fort Collins Colorado store so will havve to wait. Will a later batch # help?
I just got my second 1569 at best buy yesterday and it is not nearly as bad as the first but clearly the touchpad goes bizeerk especially when I am moving files around or arranging favorites etc... The first one had to be shut down to get it working again but this one if you close the lid to sleep and then immediately open it, works find for a while. Geeksquad was stumped got a manager and saidto try a a third one... No more in stock though and would have to return this one and wait. Suggestions?
I tried updating the touchpad driver myself, some weeks ago. I could not solve the problem. I have had the computer for six months and 20 days, just past the expiration of my six month Geek support.
Since I could not return my notebook, I called Dell. They had me restart the computer in safe mode with networking and the touch pad worked fine. The Dell person then asked me to let him take control of the computer and he updated the driver. The representative then ended the session and I rebooted the computer normally.
I have been typing and using the mouse for about 30 minutes with absolutely no symptoms. It seems to work o.k. It appears that this is indeed a driver issue.
Call Dell at 1-800-624-9896
If the problem returns, I will get back to this forum. If you don't see any more posts from me, then my computer is working.
My problems have returned. I called Dell again. They once again tried to repair drivers. They insist that it is a software issue. Although everything works fine after re-booting, I can start the symptoms by going to a web site or application that uses Flash.
To prove to Dell that this is their problem and not a problem caused by my software, I have restored the computer to its original factory image and I can make the touchpad start acting erratically by attempting to play Scrabble on Facebook. The Flash application starts it going every time.
Hardware or software, it is a problem that came with the computer.
Thank you all for posting to this forum. It has been a great resource.

Did Dell replace it or Best Buy? I'm past Best Buy's 14 day return/exchange policy.

Apparently this is a big issue with this system. I spoke with Dell reps today and there will be a fix/patch for this soon.

I wish that I had looked at this forum earlier. I have the same problem and my Geek Support at Best Buy has expired.

I guess there are 2 problems.
If your mouse works fine when you press down its a hardware issue and if not a driver issue. My problem was 100% a hardware issue.
