* Power off the monitor * Disconnect the power cord from the monitor * Disconnect all monitor cords from the PC (USB, DVI, VGA, DisplayPort, HDMI, etc.) * While disconnected, press and hold the monitor power button down for 5 seconds * Reconnect the DVI cord from the monitor and to the PC video card * Reconnect the monitor USB uplink cable from the monitor and to the PC * Reconnect the power cord to the monitor * Power on the monitor if it does not power on by itself * Power on the PC * Press the monitor Input Source Select button and choose DVI. Now, once into windows, did any New Hardware messages come up?
I went step by step thru the list and there's no difference. Testing Dell Video chat - says there is no camera.
No camera is listed in Device Manager; also no 'New Hardware' message came up when Windows started. The USB ports are still not working.
When I go to "Add Device" in control panel, camera and scanner wizard, the only device listed as available is "xerox work center pro scanner" - something I never even had!

somehow I got lucky on this desktop, dell threw in 3 year on-site for a small amount of money - the $500 laptop I just purchased they wanted $332 for the extended warrently, I declined.
I got lucky - Dell actually replaced the graphics card last week - I missed that he didn't plugin all the cable correctly.
I do have re-curring problems w/ the monitor - I have 14m left on warranty period.
SINCE MY PREVIOUS POST WAS DELETED, HERE IT IS MODIFIED: I will not denigrate dell: Dell did not replace my monitor. Out of warranty. The only help I got was the answers shown here. None of the suggestions worked. I have no usable USB ports, no webcam, no microphone. This system is only 2 years, 2 mos. old.... The system was UNDER 24 mos. old when this occurred ---- Seems like Dell's quality has gone downhill. I have bought Dells for the last 6 -8 years, but my next system will definitely be something else. For the money you spend on systems, I want something that will last longer than the expiration date on a can of tomato soup!
I am somewhat confused. How can you hold us responsible for the effects of a power outage? That is certainly not covered by our warranty. The power outage could have damaged the PC motherboard, video card, power supply, CPU, anything. I do not believe it is a reflection of our hardware quality. I think any PC manufacturer hardware could have issues with power outages.
Was the PC and monitor connected to a UPS or surge protector? If yes, those should have some kind of warranty for the items connected to them.
I do not hold dell responsible for the power outage. The monitor was the only thing affected during the outage. I had been having intermittent problems before this. Sometimes the usb's didn't work, then they did.The webcam and mic tho worked okay up until that time. I am having the same problems with the built-in card reader: sometimes it works, sometimes not. Same with 2 of the cpu usb hubs: 1 or 2 will often not work.
it has been a shaky machine in the last 12 months - just like the one it replaced. Now that one is relegated to word-processing only - it's just slowly failing. each time it is used, more error messgaes, more BSOD occur, -- be nice to have a machine that will perform reliably, and without fail, for at least 4 years. - i guess you just get what you pay for...
my usb's do not work consistently on my monitor nor does my web cam work consistently - it is what it is, I guess I have a year left to place a trouble ticket. Both the keyboard and mouse and any other device must be plugged into the cpu. I guess I just work around it. Sorry for the delayed response.

Hi Chris, thank you for replying.

Now what?
Thank you!

The devices that will not work on the monitor's usb ports WILL work in the front side ports of the CPU --
there is one bad usb port on the rear of the cpu (just tested it).
WHERE is the hardware profile of the system located? Is it sysinfo?
Is my monitor out-of-warranty (purchased 11/2008) ?

And you have tested another USB device on the Desktop PC USB ports to verify they are still working? If yes, it sounds like the monitor is defective.

Download the Auslogics System Information tool. I will need your monitor order number in a private message to check the warranty status.

oh - monitor ORDER number? I'm really not sure if it was a separate order?
Would service tag on my 518 do it?
I've dl'd and running the sys info tool.
It says "no problem device"; however does not see any web cam.
Shows 10 usb ports... which I believe are the ones on front, back, top of the cpu.

my monitor is doing the same thing as yours, shows xerox work center pro scanner - did Dell replace your monitor or was another fix involved?
