Even a seemingly successful update to Android 2.1 on Dell Streak leaves me with hours of work to do restoring phone

I have no idea if this is an Android issue or a Dell Streak issue, but I am astounded that updating the OS to 2.1 in the recent o2 rollout leaves me having to:

re-download all the apps

re-enter data

re-set up email connections and account info and all the rest

re-set up all shortcuts, desktops etc

I did check in ASTRO first and thought that relevant data was on the SD card. I find it incomprehensible that someone can design an OS update where the default result is that you have to set up your phone entirely from scratch, wasting hours of your time.

Do really think they care? They have your money and like Apple with its Rose tinted glasses, everything is fine .

Tin??????  My iphone 4 did not come with a tin!  but lasted nearly 7 hours before I gave it away to  a friends very fashion conscious daughter. Bit of a joke trying to sell it to the business community.

Well I am on my 5th Streak due to hardware and firmware problems and tomorrow number 5 goes back to make way for number 6 albeit with the outdated 1.6 firmware and  told what ever I do don't update it..

Does it not remind you of Apple who told their customers its a mobile phone but only if you hold it in a certain way while standing on one leg and reciting the Koran backwards! :D the one leg bit was OK but try as I might could not recite the Koran  backwards too so it had to go.

Somebody is watching from Dell, I have been warned already about what I say, then told they would ban me from the forums if I printed the letter they sent to me! It's a farcical merrygoround.

As for the democratic iphone. where's the democracy in a phone you have to jailbreak to get it to work as users want not as Apple dictates.

Why do you need to jailbreak?   What did your iPhone not do for you that you felt you had to jailbreak it in the first place?  I forgot!  You only had it for an hour and gave it to your daughter..   Dohhhh.  All I can say if you are prepared to put up with 5 faulty Streaks, received threatening letters from Dell and still want another, then you must be on something that you shouldn't be and there is something seriously wrong with the company itself. No offence intended.

Instead of watching they should have (at the very least) by now issued AN APOLOGY and a course of action to correct their monster balls-up

Ahhh!!!  A programmer eh?  Okay I understand now why you are so anti-Apple. I'm not as blessed as you in the brains department and the last time I did any programming is with an old flat file database from Symantic called Q&A..  That was years ago!  And as for being a programmer stop wasting your time with WM and start writing APPS - at least you can (appear) to get rich very quickly if you introduce a hot one.

I may be a bit fierce with Dell but actually spend a lot of money with them for my infrastruture at work. When service is needed they are usually very efficient. But that's the business end - the Streak seems to fall into the category of consumer-they-can-be-messed-about category.  I am sure you have read all the threads about how people feel - there are always the moaners but Dell really should jump on this pronto. As long as they allow this to go on Apple will get stronger and if they do as a result they totally deserve it.

Whilst compiling this my Streak has just rebooted!  How odd is that?  !!!

COME ON DELL PUT A SMILE ON OUR FACES - YOU KNOW WE WANT OUR STREAKS TO BE PART OF OUR DAY - GIVE US SOME DEFINITIVE ANSWERS!!

Not fair, I repeated G4HKs last sentance and they deleted my reply  with it in saying I broke forum rules by writing that, Hands up all who think Dell don't like me! :emotion-11:

Not a programmer by design, Physicist, mathmatician and cryptologist first :) and getting my posts on this Dell forum deleted by Dell a close second :emotion-2: They must consider me a threat! Sorry Dell not a card carrying member of the communist party, have any terrorist links unless you class working for Uncle Sam as terrorism, just a very unhappy customer with lots of questions and no answers.
