Well I see and feel your pain. On the screen and around the screen should be a ground, make sure all the screws are in and make sure there is not a ground wire connected to the wrong place. You never said if this happens when power cord is on or not. could be battery. IF this happens when it gets hot, solve the hot issue first, probably tied together.

One other , behind most screens is that flat ribbon connection, change that.(it comes with new screens now) and make sure that little snap is down on the ribbon. If they look god ,just reseat them anyway

Thanks for the reply, however:

The VGA harness has been replaced - same issue.
All screws are secure and in the right place.
The issue is unchanged whether connected via battery &/or mains; or mains - no battery (battery removed).
There is no obvious signs of heat, the fan kicks in as & when required.
I have updated Bios to AO8 - I believe it is the latest.

I am using the Studio 1737 now to post the reply, just using an external screen.

I am hoping and to be honest fairly confident that it is not the mobo.

The only other thing is the new inverter was faulty - how unlucky could that be?
