Okay, I was starting to think the ethernet cable dell sent was just broken. But I shall try the way you said. Bu do I got to the my router page to do Internet configuration?

I can't do it like that. You see the only computer that has a DSL connection is the desktop, and I cant make the connection for my laptop or the router anywhere else. So I have to make the router centralized at the desktop comp and pickup the signal with my laptop.

Hi  BreakStream.

Before beginning the install, I made the internet connection  on my notebook first.  That is, the notebook had a connection to begin with.  My desktop was not used during the setup.

Thereafter, any reference to the computer means your notebook  computer.

I used WEP and AES.  The WAP stuff is not doing very well, based upon the software already installed on my notebook.

When you logon to my.router, remember the user and  password is admin.

If things gets too fouled up, you can take a paperclip and insert it into the small hole at the back of the router so you can start anew.

Okay, I'm seem to be a little stupid about this. But which cables do I need to plug where so that I can have this routed correctly. I tried wiring it myself but I was still not getting the internet to work, also I was trying to get the my router page up and that wouldnt work either.

I had to because I have Windows ME, not supported by the software CD. What I'm talking about is configuring the 2300. That is what you need to do, right? Your Internet is already configed if it works when the DSL is plugged into the host desktop PC...

I did it this morning the same way as you, possibly.

This is from the "Forum Home : General Boards : Wireless Networking : Dell 2300 Truemobile wireless router between windows ME and XP"  thread.

Well, I figured it out. I connected the router between the DSL modem and the PC as Steve (volcano11) stated - thanks, btw!

I still could not get the http://my.router page to load. I unplugged the modem, then plugged it again again to reboot it. I don't know if that helped, but after pressing refresh a few times the page loaded. I then followed the online config steps thru save and exit.

The host PC then had normal Internet access. I went to the laptop with the wireless card, activated it by clicking the icon in the system tray and checking the activate box. That was it, all works.

Hope this helps,

BreakStream,

This diagram from HomeNetHelp should clarify things for you.

Thank you, *sighs* but this is starting to really confuse me and if the Dell tech support call center wouldnt keep putting me on hold for eternity I might be able to solve this easier. I also just noticed when I connect the wires a certain way the light for one of the LAN ports turns green. But if I connect it the way the cd instructs the LAN port light is yellow. Does this mean something?

I connected the Ethernet wire that comes out of the phone jack to the Internet port on the 2300.

Then, I connected the cable supplied by the 2300 to the LAN 1 port on the 2300 on one end, and then into my Ethernet jack on my PC on the other end.

Next, I connected the power supply to the 2300 and plugged it into the outlet.

I still could not get the http://my.router page to open (just enter it into the address bar on IE), so I unplugged the DSL modem, waited one minute, and plugged it back in.

I tried to get the my.router page open, but it did not connect. I had to hit "refresh" several times before I received the login screen where you enter admin for the password and user name.

The internet connection still didn't work normally, however, until I went through the web setup process. Now, the internet connection on the host PC is fine.

I have a Cisco 675 broadband modem, btw.
