some more news -- i tried the hdmi cable that hooks my dvr to my tv, and it worked -- i don't have a model but it is a vizio brand.  and i determined from some pics that that short one that worked is a phillips brand, so needing another, i bought another phillips off ebay ($4.99!) and it also worked !!

so i'm all set.  jb

Hi Chris,

I'm glad that you guys are addressing it here. I had the same issue or you can a bit more weird and resolved after seeing solution in this thread.

I have 2 numbers of Dell ST2320L, one purchased in Dec,2010 and another in Mar,2013. I loved the first one so much that I couldn't even thought to upgrade when I had to buy the second one :)

The problem appeared with the first one when second one came. Actually first was attached to my PC all the time with DVI, and I had no issues. Then I thought to setup a small TV in my bedroom and got the HD DTH connected to ST2320L for the purpose of having audio connected directly from monitor with less clutter, plus you do not get a TV of this resolution at this price (prove me wrong), and I was anyway going to use only HDMI and External speakers, so this was all I needed.

It was so fascinating that I removed the audio from Motherboard and used from monitor in PC as well (less clutter), obviously I had to connect to HDMI instead of DVI I was using. And, from here I had the big issue of floating "NO HDMI Cable atatched" whenever my screen was supposed to go off (I have it as low as 2 minutes, as I work from home and leave the PC on all the time, so it would save energy). The HDMI was supplied by Dell only with an Inspiron Notebook. I then saw this thread and tried the one provided by DTH provider and it worked like charm.

So here are the 2 cables one which worked and one which didn't--

NOT worked (Supplied with Dell Inspiron Notebook)
Byte    E119932-T   *   AWM  STYLE   20276    80oC    30V    VW-1    HDMI1.3    CABLE    2METER    BHC78PE

Worked (Supplied with DTH Box)
High   Speed    HDMITM    Cable    AVLV2    AWM    STYLE    20276    80oC    30V    VW-1    ProgTech

Note that, by "worked" I mean only the sleep mode. Both cables carried the Video and Audio without any issues, the difference was only the Sleep mode getting detected wrongly as cable disconnection. Which was rightly pointed by Chris.

Hope this helps to the fellow readers. Your monitor has no issues, it's just your cable. Try the one above the HDMI1.4 (High Speed HDMI) and not HDMI1.3. I guess it has nothing to do with quality as the one provided by my DTH provider is quite cheap looking and thin :emotion-4: while the one which came with Dell Inspiron is very premium looking, thick, soft, long and with golden connectors which did not fade in 2-3 years.

Thank you!

Since HDMI carries both video and audio, my bet is the PC audio is still syncing up with the monitor stopping it from going into true sleep state. Maybe disable all PC audio in the Device Manager and then see what the monitor doesa

I have my st2410 hooked up to my Mac and I have the same problem, though I am using VGA, not HDMI. The monitor doesn't sleep when the computer does, instead I get a floating box that reads "No VGA cable".

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Does this occur when the monitor is connected to a Windows PC VGA?

Sorry about the time getting back. I don't know if it happens with VGA, I'm not using the VGA. It doesn't happen, however, when plugged to the Digital connector. It's a bummer though, because the monitor is standing by fully powered up, with the Windows Logo floating around. wasting electricity. Simple solution, I stopped using the HDMI port which was the reason I bought this monitor in the first place. Go figure...

And so if doing that makes it shut down properly, that is the procedure I should use when I log off the system - go to the device manager and disable the sound? I don't even care if that fixes it. That's not a reasonable solution.

I never said leave it that way. I said to disable the audio to check if it was the culprit.

The reason may be

1. The cable is not connected completely

2. It is FW issue.

3. Others , if you can provide detail informations ,may can help u.

I have the same problem with a Dell ST2320L monitor.  I originally had a VGA cable connecting my PC and the monitor, and there was no problem with the monitor sleeping, but after switching to an HDMI cable the monitor won't sleep.  After more than 1 1/2 years is there still no solution?!?  BTW, how do I disable the audio?

Thanks

You would open the Device Manager, Open the Sound, video and game controllers, right click the Audio, click Disable. Close the Device Manager and see if the monitor sleeps.

Disabling the audio had no effect, I still have the problem with the monitor sleeping.

Dietrich1537, The manual says, "If HDMI input is selected and HDMI cable is not connected, a floating dialog box as shown below appears. The monitor will enter Power Save Mode after 15 minutes if left at this state.".

So not connected is the same as the PC going into some Power Save Mode. When the PC enters its Power Save Mode, you should see this on your monitor. Which you are. What I am concerned with is after 15 munutes of that floating image, does the monitor go into Power Save Mode?

I left the monitor on after the computer went into Sleep Mode and the monitor did go into Power Save Mode after 15 minutes, but this is NOT an acceptable alternative. And it is ridiculous that the manufacturer set the monitor to run for 15 minutes in a 'disconnected' state before going into Power Save Mode. It appears that when the computer goes into Sleep Mode, the monitor does not interpret it as Sleep Mode (and respond accordingly) but as a disconnection from the computer. Why would the monitor interpret the computer's Sleep Mode as a disconnection only when the connection is made with an HDMI cable and not with other cables?  Surely, there is someone at Dell who would have an answer to this seemingly simple question.
