Vostro 3700 - no audio through HDMI

Question

Hey! I have a problem with sound on HDMI cable. From what I've checked the decive is not even detected by my system. HDMI output should be listed after command 'aplay -l' and it isn't. HDMI is also not listed in alsamixer. I tried looking for drivers at Dell's site but there were none for Linux. By the way I'd like to ask how to update BIOS without Windows? The only BIOS update I found was an .exe file and was meant to be run under Windows. My system is Ubuntu 10.04 x64 Bungi

I don't know what you need for drivers for Linux, but HDMI audio is a part of the video driver, so that is the one you need to get if you do not already have it. This thread explains some of the trials to get HDMI audio enabled on Windows.

Try posting your BIOS question on the Linux Board.
