Hi been having the same problem but I think I have found a fix.

I went in to device manager and unistalled the "Audio Device on HD audio bus" or whatever the sound card shows up as when no driver is installed.

After scanning for new hardware I let windows find its own driver through the Add new Hardware popup and searching online. Which it did with no problems. So I now have working sound but with the annoying pop every few seconds.

I went to the control panel and opened the "IDT audio control panel". For me there was only one setting "Enable Power management" Switching this on and off causes the popping noise.  Turning this off completely seems to have stopped the annoying noise. The noise apears to be caused by the sound card going in and out of power saving. The time out is 10 seconds which corolates quite well with the way the popping noise behaves.

So far I have not had any more sound issues. Hope this works for you and I would be interested to see if its permanent.
