 dpalexdell,

Start, control panel, printers and faxes, Dell 924 printer. Right click on Dell 924 Printer, preferences and you should see a box to check to print in Black and white.

Thank you for your reply. I expected to be able to select B&W just as you suggested but for some reason my printer setup tab does not offer that option as shown below. Confusing!

 dpalexdell,

Wonder if it's because you're out of black ink? I guess under advanced, you currently have the complete-a-print box checked.

I cannot suggest anything until you replace the black Dell Series 5 ink cartridge. Printer needs both cartridges in to work and need ink. The sensor can detect there is no ink and stop the printer from working.

Make and model of your computer and operating system is helpful. 32-bit or 64-bit?

My computer is a Dell Inspiron 530 which I believe is 32-bit.

Checking the advanced tab options I seem to be missing the complete-a-print check box. See snapshot.

I know I've seen the option presented before when my black cartridge ran out. I also am pretty sure that I unchecked the box to save the color ink when I installed a new black cartridge. As a test I removed my color cartridge and was able to printed a good B&W page so I know I have black ink.

I took the color ink out to make sure black ink was performing the printing and not the color ink based on the complete-a-print option.

My Advanced, more options screen snapshot appears below.

 dpalexdell,

Printer may not install correctly until you install the Dell Series 5 ink cartridges.

I can't say that I've seen this screen since my initial printer installation which was more than a year ago.

I think I'll try to see if my issues can be resolved by reinstalling printer and then check for driver updates.

Thank you for your help!

Rick,

Just wanted to let you know that after I put new color & B/W cartridges in printer I reinstalled driver and now my printer option screens look just like your snapshots. Don't know what happened but all is well.

Thank you.

dpalexdell,

Glad you got it working! :emotion-21: Thanks for posting back. My theory is that when the cartridges were missing, the complete-a-print option is no longer there.

Take care,

Rick
