May be a YouTube post will get some response or maybe I should consider an Asus or HP buy.

It would be nice to get some form of feedback from DELL UK rather than having posts deleted and being stonewalled by silence.

Might be a bit of a cultural thing,  I had to respond to your other choices obviously ASUS are very good my son and my mother both have one from my recomendation...they are very good but have been slow getting the new technology and dont have any thing at present to compare with the XPS..however I am seeing so many bad comments about HP they really do seem to have a fundamental design flaw they are running very hot I wouldnt go near it..hopefully Dell UK will come through soon the americans have gone quiet as they got optimus and 1080p now..I am sure that they will not be to far of...I would be the same in your boat..

haha yeah I should be a rep..you go to remember that I am waiting for my system with baited breath and the last thing that I would want to do right now is to compromise this!! So I will keep being diplomatic in the hope that I shall receive a lovely uber system lol !!  Actually it is also the new toy factor and after a lot of research I have found that in this price range at the moment this was the way to blow 2 grand..trust me I dont take decisions like this lightly and I tried very hard to see an alternative but at present there isnt one.

I am concerned that I may have gone in  tad early with sandy bridge being so new but the temptation was to great and I been waiting to long, a few months ago I would have got an ASUS most likely.  Also being in australia we have had much more flexiible and desirable configurations options an upgrade from 900p to 1080p Anti Glare non 3D with optimus and WiDi was only 80$ and part of the reason I have been vocal in this forum as there has been so much interest from people in other countries about this, I have also had the coveted toy so I am trying to be sensitive to their predicament. I have also been very happy with the way it has been handled if there was a problem you would here me whinging please believe me.

You are right I am feeling some brand loyalty here but you got to remember that I am waiting for a toy that has some awesome specs 2720QM 1,2 terra  7200 HDD GT555M 3 gig with optimus 1080p Anti Glare monitor and I shall continue to suck up to Dell while my system is being built and delivered, and avoid the wrath of people who havent been blessed with the my good fortune LOL  I hope you can see my predicament :D

@CAM1235  - you should be a spokesman for Dell LOL. Yr right  - Asus seem to have a good rep. They maybe a bit slow with the new technology but  their laptops seem to be reliable products. IMO regarding the overheating with the HP laptops, I've  observed similar comments with XPS  15 (LX502) and 17 (LX702) which surprises me because I thought  that the new sandy bridge processors  / rectified that problem? Guess I'll see what happens next - tho one can only wait for so long.

You can add another UK customer to the list of those wanting a Non-3D 1080P XPS 17 (with 4 ram slots, but I think that would be asking too much from Dell!). I actually ordered and received a 3D XPS 17 but chose to return it due to the missing SandyBridge features but mainly due to the poor battery life from the omission of Optimus; the GT 555M running constantly is unnecessary and only adds to the heat output and battery usage. Apart from these flaws, the overall quality and design was very good (apart from the HD activity indicator being behind the screen for some reason...).

I would happily order a non-3D 1080P XPS 17 if Dell UK were to make them available soon, otherwise I would have to go with a competitor. Hopefully someone from Dell UK is actually reading this thread and others and can see that there is an obvious demand for the non-3D 1080P XPS 17 in the UK. Quite frankly it seems almost crazy that they have not been made available already, people are waiting with money in hand to orders these, if they are not available soon, there are going to be a lot of lost sales with people going to competitors, it's not as if customers are asking for non-existent models or new technology!

I completely agree with you that is why I have kept and interest in this thread, the americans were saying the same thing till it came through .

Keep up the pressure to give you no choice is wrong and to ignore optimus is a mistake particularly with a GPU running that hot  Having just been through that process of reseaching for purchase I completely empathise with your plight.

I am glad to hear you say that with these issues addressed that you would like the system I have been very nervous about the whole affair and you are backing up what I thought that it is the best option at the moment in this price range with these issues addressed.

Good luck with it, I hope they come through.

Your right mate, I wasnt worried I recall in the configuration stage as I was ready to order it was a very intense experience it is alot of money and lovers of this type  technology can get very focussed on the nature of the emergent technology.  I feel a little silly answering you guys in the UK like this all the time but I guess I can empathise with your situation having recently been in similar situation but with the benefit of australia offering what you are after.

I have checked Dell UK site out and I must say it was dissapopinting even with things like the hard drive capactiy and a couple of things I thought werent as good as what some countries were getting.  I actually checked a random country Morroco and they werent even getting XPS laptops at all at present.

I did a little google research on this and through Wiki answers I have discovered that different coutries have diffent factories in their regions.  In the UK the factory I believe is in Ireland and is servicng the EU.  In Australia we are mainly looked after by China and Indonesia apparently, or Malaysia according to Dell Salesperson.  So the more progressive nature of our configuration choices may be related to our geographic location to SE Asia.

We are dealing with the largest computer company in the world and I suppose with the rollout of these new models and technologies at this early stage could have this type of scheduling problem, I feel that the factory you are getting from is still dealing with last generation components as 900p and the smaller hard drives would suggest.  No doubt that will be rectified and I hope for you sake soon, the Americans were quite vocal at the same point, they have a different factory to us as well.

I have actually been answered in forums by Dell Consultant early on with regards to my concerns to heating issues with the lack of optimus, I found the salesperson I dealt with to be the same they were both quite open about the concerns with the new technology.  You have got to remmeber that I along with you guys are being critical of the flag ship 3D model that has been released internationally with a lot of marketing.  This is purely from technology point of view only because of the sandy bridge features not being available and as more informed consumers we are probably more concerned with this.

Ok I will complete my speech lol I was going to keep quiet but I thought I would answer David, as mentioned I felt very intense just before I purchased too. We are at the early stage of cutting edge technology I am sure that this will be resolved soon. Good Luck

" In the UK the factory I believe is in Ireland and is servicing the EU".

As far as I am aware this is not the case anymore, they no longer have a factory in Ireland ,only offices"I am open to correction here",as this  factory was replaced by a new one in Poland.

Savings on workforce  salary's I believe :emotion-12:

Thanks you are probably right I was only looking at Wiki answers trying to understand what was going on..apparently USA get some of its manafacturing done in China as well as US this may explain why they have recieved 1080p optimus sooner..I am guessing but possibly the components are manafactured in China or somewhere in Asia explaining the rollout order.  I have been mystified why australia got these options first this is not usually the case with emergent technology it is not usually like that. may be something to do with its closeness to Asia? It may just be a case of logistics, I have had the impression that there has been a large demand for this new model and that have been supply issues, this may settle down as it is such a new model

Still no 1080p non-3d option available in the UK!

COME ON DELL GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER!!!

Or at least tell us what is going on? Is there ever going to be this option in the UK or am I just wasting my time waiting? Please, please, please just tell us when/if we will ever have Optimus 1080p non-3D XPS17's in the UK?

It seems Italy now has the option of a non-3D 1080P Panel: http://configure.euro.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?oc=n00x7m07&c=it&l=it&s=dhs&cs=itdhs1&model_id=xps-l702x
