A driver (service) for this device has been disabled. An alternate driver may be providing this functionality. (Code 32) HELP!!!!
My DVD/CD burner recently stopped working. I get the following error...
A driver (service) for this device has been disabled. An alternate driver may be providing this functionality. (Code 32)
Please help. I have only had this laptop for 3 weeks...ugh.

Have you installed software that provides you with a virtual drive like alcohol?

It actually turned out to be a reg error put there by Itunes 10.1 I had to remove two items and then it worked again. Of course now I cant burn anything from Itunes (lol) go figure.

In Computer, right click your optical drive>properties. Do you have a Recording tab present?

I am also experiencing this issue with my Alienware 15x DVD drive. No functionality at all and windows7 cant fix it. exactly the same message;
"A driver (service) for this device has been disabled. An alternate driver may be providing this functionality. (Code 32)"
Please help as this is a real problem.....

Try these steps to fix this issue.
1. Run Microsoft Fix it using this link: http://support.microsoft.com/mats/cd_dvd_drive_problems/en-us
2. Update the CD/DVD drive firmware available at the Dell support site.
If the issue is not resolved, run a custom scan on the CD/DVD drive using the PC check up from Dell Support Center.
Please reply with the results.
