Hello,

I have the same system and I had the same issues. The issue is not software nor driver related.  The issue  is a daughter-board failure. Both the Wireless and the audio card, as well as the USB ports that are on the right side of the computer are all on the daughterboard. Your daughterboard could of been damaged when traveling. What I did to fix mine, was replace the daughterboard. Generally daughterboards are around $30.00 USD for Dell Inspiron N-4010.  If your computer is still in warranty Dell will fix it for you, for free.

Thank You

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I had to post that this is the correct answer for any future searchers.  I replaced the HDD in my girlfriend's laptop with an SSD, and suddenly her wifi and audio hardware weren't being recognized, and the USB on the right side of the laptop not working at all.  I don't think I broke anything (except the Delete keycap trying to pry the keyboard out).  Obviously something went wrong though.  Ordered a new daughterboard from eBay with your part number Dell DAUM8TB14D0, installed it, and now she's good to go.  Thanks so much for posting!

I used this well-written guide to get to the daughterboard with a minimum of fuss.  Hope this helps some future Googler (like myself).  If you have all of these symptoms, don't bother with OS reinstalls, you probably have a hardware failure!

Rea,

The icon in your task bar ("a computer with the cross") indicates that your machine has no active network connections (WiFi or Ethernet). Below is a image of the taskbar of a machine connected to WiFi, with the sound set to low, and the battery plugged in and charging.

With my machine, I noticed that when the daughter-board begins to go, it gradually gets worse over time (It starts out with the WiFi not working, then the sound going, then the right side USB ports).

From my experience, I have noticed that the N4010 (Dell Inspiron 14R) is very fragile. A simple bump can damage the daughter board. Even if you inspect the machine, you generally will not be able to see the damage to the daughter board.

I have since replaced my N4010 with a Dell Latitude.

As for your internal speaker not working, I would say that the issue with the daughter board is why the speaker isn't receiving signals (The internal speaker and side audio jacks are on separate parts of the board).

Please post if any more assistance is needed.

Thank you,
-Sergio Zygmunt

Hi Ammad

Welcome to the Community. The first thing to do after reinstalling windows is to install the drivers. You should have got the drivers CD together with the computer that you can install it off. If you do not have it, you can download the drivers off our support site. You should start by installing the Chipset driver first, and then cont with the other drivers that are missing.

The best way to find out for missing drivers is through the Device manager. Right click on the Computer icon on the desktop, select properties, and then click on device manager on the left side. Missing drivers will have an ! mark or a ? mark next to it. Below is the link to your drivers off our support site.

Thank you

Hi Ammad,

I would suggest you to format and reinstall your operating system again. You can use the same link which I previously gave to install the drivers. This is the sequence you should install the drivers. Chipset Driver, Video driver, Audio driver, Network driver, Wireless driver, the remaining you install as per your wish.

Thank you

Royan

ammad,

When you install the operating system, you need to install the desktop/notebook utility and the chipset drivers first. If you did not install them first, the rest of the drivers will fail to install. How to Download and Install Drivers in the Correct Order

You probably can start with installing the noteboo utility(under system utilities), then the chipset drivers. These control all the devices attached to your computer, like wireless adapters, webcam, usb ports, etc.

ammad,

I see you have Windows 7 64-bit, correct?

We'll try the Windows 7 64-bit drivers first and see if things work.

Please read, How to by-pass the Dell Download Manager and download the drivers using Internet Explorer, in your browser.

Dell System Software and the Intel HM57 Express Chipset Family and the Realtek RTS5138 Card Reader

Then install

Intel Management Engine Interface <ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell>

Intel Turbo Boost Technology

<ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed / replaced from this post by Dell>

 and I

Intel Turbo Boost Technology

<ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed / replaced from this post by Dell>

Then download

Processor Driver (if applicable)
Video
Audio (sound)
Input Drivers (keyboard/mouse)
Modem
Network Card

QuickSet(Laptop only)

Hello,

The part number for the daughter board is Dell DAUM8TB14D0 some websites call it "Audio USB board" but the technical name is the daughter board.

If you do a web search for Dell Dell DAUM8TB14D0 you will get different prices ranging from $19.99 USD to $39.99 USD. Some sites also call the board "Dell Part number CPVP9" But I found that if you do a web search Dell DAUM8TB14D0 that you get the best results.

Now when you buy the new daughter board and you receive it it most likely will not have a WiFi card in it, you can take your old WiFi card out of the broken daughter board and put it in the new daughter board, instead of buying a new WiFi card.

As for installing the daughter board, it does take some time, as dell has put a lot of screws in to the bottom of the computer. Do a web search for "Dell Insprion N-4010" disassembly" to see what I mean. So you may want to buy the board and have someone else install it.

Thank You,

-Sergio Zygmunt

Hi,

Just read your suggested answer about the "daughter board" being the real issue for the devices not working. My dell Inspiron N-4010 has the same issues (right side USB port not working and wireless card plus internal speakers not functioning)  I am out of warranty with dell for the notebook.

Where can I get the daughter board ? (any specific part number ?) and also how complicated it is to install a daughter board for someone who is not very hardware savy :(

I would appreciate any feedback on resolving the apparent hardware situation.

Regards,

Abdul Rahman
