Using WPA-PSK(TKIP) Security(Personal) usually helps with most wireless devices. I have had many devices connected to my network with these settings.
Not sure if you 1397 adapter has this setting. Go to control panel, device manager, network, 1397 adapter, advanced. Look and see if you have something that says, Antenna Diversity. If it's there, try changing it from Auto to Aux. On some models, this works.

Andrew,
I would first start with changing the SSID in the wireless router and try using these Recommended Wireless Router Settings, I use channel 11.

Thanks for the reply Rick, I changed the channel to 11 and it miraculously started to work...of all the things I tried!
Anyway, thanks a lot for the reply :)
Regards,
Andrew
