HDMI cable to watch PC video on TV

I have limited knowledge of computer,so bare with me.  I purchased a HDMI cable to be able to watch movies playing in my Dell Vista PC onto my TV. Both items do have a HDMI cable hookup, so I thought it would be as simple as plug and play.  When this did not work I tried to find the monitor setting that would allow me to set the display to dual monitor.  I could not find that setting with vista as on Windows XP their is an obvious Display icon in the control panel.  So can anyone help me figure  out how to watch DVD playing on my computer to display on my TV?

You need to select the hdmi output in your video options. Post your exact model computer for specific instructions or look up Connect a TV in Help.

I have a Dell model Studio 1737.  It would be awesome If you are able to guide me through with telling me where to locate the video options and what setting to choose. thanks sarah
