Agent: "Thank you for contacting Dell Small and Medium Business Hardware Warranty Support. My name is xxxxxx. How may I help you today?"
03/30/2011 08:39:03AM
Me: "Hi, Can you tell me if the Studio 1558, when connected with Ethernet cable, can wake on lan? I can't find any setting in the Bios that either enables or disables WOL. I have setup Windows 7 Ultimate to respond to magic packets and it works on other PC's
on my network but not the 1558. I know it, WOL, does not work using WiFi but this setup is cabled. Any advice?"
03/30/2011 08:39:15AM
Agent: "Pleased to meet you, aaaaaa. Can you confirm the system that you would like to have support with is STUDIO 1558 with Service Tag:xxxxxxxxx ?"
03/30/2011 08:39:27AM
Me: "Yes"
03/30/2011 08:39:59AM
Agent: "Thank you for the confirmation. To give you an update, you still have an active Hardware Warranty contract that will expire on xxxxxxxxxxx. Going back to the issue that you mentioned earlier..."
03/30/2011 08:40:11AM
Agent: "Can you tell me what is WOL?"
03/30/2011 08:40:30AM
Me: "Wake on Lan"
03/30/2011 08:42:09AM
Agent: "Okay."
03/30/2011 08:45:02AM
Agent: "Wake on Lan is an option in BIOS but it do not have is 1558."
03/30/2011 08:46:32AM
Me: "So it can't be done on the 1558, correct?"
03/30/2011 08:47:41AM
Agent: "Yes correct."
03/30/2011 08:48:16AM
Me: "Ok, that's all I need to know. Thank you, and Good Bye."
Modern laptop doesn't have wake on lan, that is really a bummer. I wish they would tell you before you buy what the unit will do and will not do, wake on lan is a basic on all modern PC's.

If it is not a choice in the BIOS, it isn't available.
