No. That is not normal. In sRGB mode they should look like 3 distinct shades of red. What color profile do you have assigned in Windows control panel? Also, what color space is that image tagged with, sRGB, none, or something else?

severoon,

I think your display may have a problem.  Using Firefox, I see three distinct shades of red.  With an unmanaged browser like Chrome, I still see three distinct shades of red, but they of course are brighter and more saturated.  I'm using Standard mode btw.

I'd contact Dell Support if I were you.

  1. Factory reset.
  2. Switch to sRGB mode.
  3. Load the 3 reds graphic I posted earlier in Chrome (non-color managed) and Safari (color managed).

If I do this, I see the two brightest shades of red fully saturated and indistinguishable in both browsers.

You and pstanar are saying that this is normal, expected behavior, and that you experience the same thing as well?

Thats what I was trying to say, if you don't see 3 distinct shades after a factory reset and esp if you go to sRGB mode. Then you have a problem with your monitor. But you will see more saturated looks in the other modes, but also see 3 shades as well.

As Gnomatic said....call Dell

I've had this happen once, I'm going to see if I can reproduce it this weekend. But when I saw the Dell service rep post and say they knew there was a problem and they're going to roll out an updated firmware, I was hoping it would address this...

I've had experience with Dell customer service on their high-end hardware, it's very good. I agree it would be nice if they cross-shipped new monitors with the firmware fix and sold ours as refurbs, but I'd even accept being without it for a week so they could apply the fix. (I definitely can see how that solution would not be great for everyone. Having said that, I have never heard of a monitor where the user can apply the firmware at home. Why is that?)

I wouldn't expect a fix for the CC issue many have reported would correct the behavior your display is exhibiting, as  they seem like two completely different issues IMO.

I hope we can do the firmware upgrade ourselves. Though looks like Chris from Dell said probably not. Hopefully as customer courtesy they will send out a replacement first then have us ship back the "defective" monitors. I know many of us who use this monitor may depend on it for their lifelihood. Going without a monitor for days or weeks may be an issue. I also will not accept a "refurb" monitor as a replacement. Especially since we all bought a few "defective" monitor to begin with. If Dell attempts to go this route, I will not be a happy camper and this will be my last Dell purchase after 2 laptops (3rd maybe on the way XPS) and countless referrals to friends and family to buy Dell products. Lets wait and see if their Customer Service skills are as good as their products.

I have experience as well being in the IT field. Their enterprise support is fantastic (esp on $25,000 servers). All I ask is they do the right thing especially since we did buy one of their most expensive Dell branded monitor.

Guess we'll have to wait and see.

If past experience is anything to draw from, there will be no firmware update for end customers. Best option to hope for is for Dell to ship replacement (refurbished or new, however they see fit) with return shipping label. Then when you receive new monitor you test it and pack your old one and courier it back at their expense. There was only one case known to me when firmware update was leaked to the web. If I'm not mistaken customers were warned that if they perform firmware update they will void their warranty. But we can still wish it ...

I just received my monitor two days ago. Today I was going to calibrate the color and I'm having the same blank screen issue with the custom color setting. Add me to the list!

Hopefully Dell finds a fix and it is BIOS update.

As a temporary fix, unplugging the monitor from the power cord fixes the color problem in my monitor. Give that a try instead of resetting to factory default every time. Not a true fix but something to tie you over until Dell figures this out.

I did the same thing. Put the monitor into Custom mode then turned it off and cycled the plug in and out. When I turned it back on I had an image!

It looks like a temporary fix that works.  Still need a permanent fix from Dell.

Welcome Tommy

On my monitor as long as you keep in on Custom Color and I turn off the monitor after each use, when I go to use it again it does not give me any issues. But if I leave it for long period in a different mode and turn it on to use, then try to go to Custom Color, I get a black screen.

So a more temporary fix (if yours acts like mines) keep it in Custom Color full time. If you use the other modes from time to time, make sure you switch back to Custom Color before you shut down for the night or if you let your computer go to standby.

Hope this helps and welcome to the "club"

Marc,

Thanks for the further info. I still think Dell should have a fix for this issue.
