Can't log into idrac6 Web Interface using IE9

Hi Everyone,

I was dismayed last Saturday when I purposely downed a server from remote knowing I would be using the idrac to bring it back up, only to find that when I tried to log into the idrac it would not accept my password.  I had to call the client and send them to the site on a Saturday night and I was pretty upset about it.

After it was back up I tried several times to log in from remote and it still would not accept my password, I tried resetting it from the server OM page, but no go.  I would put in my password, and it would quickly flash "Logging In Please wait" at the bottom of the screen, and then it would just go back to the login screen.

I was thinking that maybe it was a browser security problem, so I tried adding the remote site to my trusted sites and lowering the security, but it didn't help, so I tried various ie settings like compatibility mode and still no go.  This was tried on 2 different Windows 7 machines with IE9, one x64 and one x32.  Then I figured I would try Chrome instead, and it worked fine...

So then I tried an XP virtual machine with IE8 on it, and it also worked fine.  So - it seems that IE9 is the culprit.

I called into the Systems Managment team and we tried enabling some active x controls in the trusted zone, but it didn't help and he basically told me that IE9 doesn't play well with the drac's and they are working on a firmware update to resolve the issue.

This is all fine and I accept it, since I know I can get in with another browser if I had to, but has anybody actually managed to get it working with IE9?

I have the same issue. But, I found that if I "Delete" everything under "Browser History" (check everything: Temporary Internet files, Cookies, History, etc...) it will allow me to logon and work for a while. Then I after a bit, it stops working. So I delete everything again, log back in and work some more. This has been a major pain in the lower rear side.

Oh, but I have never got the ActiveX/native console to work. But I am fine just using the Java plug-in.

Something else you may want to try is switching from Native (aka ActiveX) mode to Java mode.  You can do this by clicking Console -> Configuration and using the pull-down menu.

This particular system has a idrac6 express, so no console redirection or console configuration.

Where the interface is getting stuck is right at the inital login to the idrac webserver, which I think is pretty much the same if you have a express or a enterprise, or a drac 5 for that matter - it's not getting to the main menu at all.

I just update the iDRAC firmware to 1.70, A02 and it's not working with IE9

I'm running 1.70 as well. I had just provisioned this server and I was able to connect and login to iDRAC using IE9, but I couldn't get the ActiveX control to load. While trying to fix that, I added the default site certificate (CN=iDRAC6 default certificate) to the Trusted Root Certification Authorities certificate store. Once I had done that, I was unable to login to iDRAC at all using IE9. Once I removed the certificate, I was able to login using IE9 again.

Something to try. Your mileage may vary...

(I'm still struggling with the ActiveX control)

I could login into the iDRAC on all our five servers with Google Chrome, but not with IE9. On another post I've read that you should put the console in Native mode instead of Java and try again. So I've did this with Chrome on one of our server and after this I could log in with IE9 again...

I've changed it back to Java mode and I can still login into the iDRACs, even on all the other servers which i did not change...

I had the same issue. It was because I was using a stored bookmark to the iDRAC like:

https://ipaddress/index.html

When I linked to this address it would redirect to login.html and cache it as index.html. So once I actually logged in, it would redirect me back to the cached version of index.html which was a login page. Once I changed my bookmarks to point to either https://ipaddress/ or https://ipaddress/login.html all was good. Just make sure you wipe your browser cache before trying this again. Also, in IE you can also enable the advanced security setting of "Do not save encrypted pages to disk" which also helps.

This fix also works with Firefox 6.

If you attempt a login 5 times while caching your login.html as index.html you will fill up the 5 available connections and then get a bad user/pass error until some of those sessions timeout and drop off (30min by default).

Thanks for your steps Don!
I successfully used your bookmark instructions with FF7.
Good to know about the login connections limit and timeout.

This worked for me first time. In IE 9, press F12 to bring up debug bar, Cick on 'Cache' menu and tick 'Always refresh from server'.
