Yes, in my Dell Precision M4600 with Bios rev A02, there is an option to disable Optimus. And actually, it should be an option in all Bios for all laptops to disable it.
Yes, you want to disable it to get all of your graphic programs installed (e.g. AutoCAD). Once installed, go back and re-enable it. Does wonders for battery life.
