Hi MindlessQuita,

Welcome to the Community. I suggest you run diagnostics on your computer. Press 12 on start up at the Dell logo, and select Diagnostics, then select extended diagnostics, and post back with any error codes.

Thank you

Royan

The hard drive is toast - you need a new, 2.5", 9.5 mm or slimmer SATA notebook drive.

I had a similar blue screen appear last night on my Dell Inspiron E1505. I was watching a show online when the blue screen appeared. I shut the laptop off and tried turning it on. I hold down the power button, but all I get is the number lock key lights up and the caps lock and a down arrow key light up and blink, then the computer shuts off.

I can't even hit f12. There's no options for anything.

Any ideas?

The following link gives basic instructions on what to do when your computer will not turn on.

support.dell.com/.../document

Adjust Brightness

Connect to an External Monitor

External Monitor did not display properly

External Monitor displayed properly

It is quick steps to tell if the problem is that the computer isn't turning on, or is turning on and there is simply no display.

If you get a display on the external monitor then the notebook is turning on, and you have a problem with the LCD.

If you don't get any type of display at all external monitor or otherwise it could be a problem where the notebook isn't turning on.  When troubleshooting this type of problem the idea is to isolate the system board as much as possible.  If you are good with notebooks, try removing all external devices, any disks in any of the drives, the battery, memory, hard drive and optical drive, wireless card and modem.

Connect the AC adapter and turn it on see if the notebook acts any differently at all.   Add one piece of memory and power up the notebook again and see if there are any further differences.  If it looks like the notebook is trying to turn on, test all the memory.  If you get an image try connecting the hard drive and see if it will boot.  Add one more item one by one, testing the system each time.  If, you can get the notebook up and running, then that is great.  If you notice that the system will run unless one item is connected, then there is a chance that one device is shorting out the notebook, you will need to replace that item.  For example, if the notebook runs fine unless you connect one of the pieces of memory.  The notebook will not turn on at all with the one piece of memory connected, and then the memory will need to be replaced.

Please let us know what you find out.

Without having an external monitor to test with,  you would have to assume that it is a problem where the notebook isn't turning on and troubleshoot accordingly.

For help in removing the devices from the system check out the service manual on the following link.
