The first thing is going to the Dell Drivers and download page. Select under operating system Windows 7 64 bit (you may enter your service tag in this page to narrow down the drivers) This is a 7 digit code at the base of your laptop. Do not enter this code on the forum. Insure that you install the 64 bit version of Windows 7. Download all the items and save them to an external harddrive e.g. in a folder called computer software. Also copy all your data from the computer.
If you have not got Service Pack 1 included in your disc download and install the standalone version before installing any drivers. Likewise with Internet Explorer 9.
Download (and save in folders/preferably give the folders the names I give so you can get them easily without any confusion). I recommend selecting download via internet browser as the Dell Downloader thing is problematic.
1. System Software (Under System Utilities)
2. Intel Chipset
3. Ricoh Chipset
4. Video Driver (AMD or Intel) Inputting the Dell Service Tag should tell you which one, if not try both and 1 will work and the other will not. Some newer systems have both as graphics is switchable, I am not sure if your system is one of these, again if its not one will fail, if it is both will install fine.
5. Conexant Application and the Diagnostics Utilitie under Communications (You may have mobile broadband here aswell if you purchased with the system)
6. Dell or Intel Wireless under Network (again service tag will tell you which one, if not try installing all)
7. Synaptics Touchpad Under Mouse and Keyboards
8. Audio Driver
9. Bluetooth Driver (Under Network, if you have, again if you don't it will fail)
10. Dell Quickset Under Applications.
11. Webcam Driver (This should be included with your system discs) May want to copy C:\Drivers and C:\Dell from your Vista setup. I think R208437 will work but not sure. See here. There may also be the Webcam software in My Dell Downloads (See 16.). Let me know if you get this working and what driver you used.
12. Skype 4.2 or latest version of skype (this one is from Dell Website and skype pre-adverts).
16. My Dell Downloads (Use 32 bit Internet Explorer for this website, this is a collection of some preinstalled software e.g. Roxio Creator Starter). These are all optional. Note keep a backup of the downloads as it only lets you download them 3 times. I had Dell Stage Software which I will never use, Roxio Creator Starter, THX TRUSTUDIO PC and McAfee (which I will never use and I recommend using other security.) This is quite a new service but I guess your system isn't so old so will probably be available for you.
17. Dell Datasafe (optional should you wish to bother with it).
This should be your Dell Computer pretty much the way Dell would have it if they preinstalled Windows 7 (with the exception to the quick restore partition and some unwanted software).
Additional software that I recommend is below, click link for a list of links and some detailed description (in a Dell wiki). The first thing you will need is decent security. I recommend not using McAfee and have given some free alternatives. However if you are happy with what you've got etc. You can proceed normally from there.

I will follow up with emails as I go. Fortunately, this is a secondary computer and taking my time to proceed but will get it done.
