Also should add, even though the fan is on high at all times, the base of the laptop can get uncomfortably hot at times.

Take an air canister and blow the dust out of the vents. If that does not help then you will have to take it apart and blow out the dust.

Having the same issue. My 1558 had virtually no fan noise for 9 months or so. Then all of a sudden, the fan sounds like a shop-vac right from start-up. It will tone down a little once in a while but if I play a video or even open my little freeware tide program, it winds up to the point of disturbing the room. Tried canned air inside and out with no improvement. Maybe the last BIOS update caused it - seems to coincide. But Dell won't let me revert back to an earlier version so can't verify that. Frustrating.

Same problem here. Dell already changed the fan 3 times, Disk drive, motherboard, and the problem still occurrs. Also the downgrade of a bios version does not have any result. The temperature stay below 50 degrees celcius, but fan is always on. useless laptop this way.
