Dell Inspiron 1545 Will not boot OS

Question

When I turn the laptop on it will not boot to the Operating System, but instead it comes up with ad error message saying: Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:        1. Insert your Windows installation disc and restart your computer.        2. Choose your language settings, and then click 'Next.'        3. Click 'Repair you computer.' If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.        File: \Boot\BCD        Status: 0xc0000102        Info: An error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data.     After i have done that it comes up with another error.   I have run many diagnostic tests and have received to following error codes:   This one was retrieved from a diagnostic utility built in Error code 0142 Msg: Error code 2000-0142   Hard drive 0 test unsuccessful: status 79   These two were from the system tree diagnostics found on my driver and utilities disc Error code 0F00:1332  Msg: DISK- Block 4224: Interrupt request (IRQ) did not send in time. Error code 0F00:0132  Msg: DISK- Interrupt Request (IRQ) did not send in time.   Then when I tried to reformat the hard drive through reinstalling windows i got this error: Windows could not format a partition on disk 0. The error occurred while preparing the partition selected for installation. Error code: 0x80070057   I have checked the hard drives connections and there OK, i just need to know what to do next. Any help is greatly appreciated.

You can buy the drive from wherever you'd like - you need a standard, 2.5' 9.5 mm or slimmer SATA notebook drive.

Your hard drive is toast, so you need a new one.

now that i know that, should i call dell for  a new one? its not under warranty though.

As long as the drive you buy is 9.5 mm or slimmer, you're all set.  The high-capacity (1 TByte) drives are 12.5 mm - these won't fit.

Got a 2.5' 250 Gig 7200rpm hard drive  and everything is working smoothly. Thanks to all that help me. This hard drive is speedy! Installed win 7 and this case is solved!
