I believe you leave a space after the BIOS name then "/" followed directly with forceit (bios name.exe /forceit)

Look for posts that have a topic of "Going back to old version" "How" or something like that.

Do you at least have the battery installed in the notebook??

Are you sure the original battery is bad/dead/can't be charged. It could be the charging circuit on the motherboard is bad. Is the new battery the same type as the original or is it a higher capacity type.

Are you using the Floppy method or the Harddrive method? I will not advise you on the Harddrive Method, only the Floppy method.

Hey Ed c and leduke30,

Thanks for the info!

Ed c - Yes, the battery is installed, I have checked the connections, even put it in the other removable drive and tried that. As for the old battery, that is kind of a frustrating point. I assumes since I was getting a red indicator light, and that the battery was a little more then 3 years old, it needed to be replaced. I will never though (probably for the best as I would just have to kick myself it the old one was ok) as I turned it in when I bought the new one.

The battery is the same, 66Whr...

I will try the command you gave me and post my results. Thanks again!

Ed c - I am doing it, or trying anyway, with the floppy discs...

Not to burst your bubble but the battery that originally came with a C600 was a 59Whr not the 66Whr. The 66Whr is for the i8200 and like models. Now that battery should work. As you see in my sig I have a i8200, C600 and a C610 and the batteries that came with the C600 and C610 are the 59Whr's. I have only bought 66Whr batteries since they seem to work in all the models I have but I have noticed if I use just a 66Whr in the C models something isn't right, especially with the C600. It takes longer to boot with just a 66Whr installed. As for me the original batteries are still working OK so I only use the 66Whr's when I know I will need extended battery power and I try to charge these Whr's in my i8200 and not in the C models, although I have charged them in the C models.

I really think you have another problem other than just a dead battery. Especially since the new 66Whr isn't even recognized or charging. Is it possible for you to charge the new battery in someone else's Dell notebook?? Then install it in your's to see if it's recognized and functions.

This red indicator light you see, is it on the battery or the battery charge light on the right side of the C600. And do you still see this light with the new battery installed.

Ohh, well the 66whr is what dell gave me so i assumed it was the same...

The red light was on the indicator light on the side of the laptop. Orgenally it was a blinking red and then I changed it with new one and it changed to blinking red 4 or 5 times then green once.

I forced the install of the BIOS version A12 (had gone that far back to see if the new BIOS install problem was the jump from A3 to A23) and I got a solid green light on the laptop indicator and was all excited so I jumped to A23 and now the light doesn't do anything.

So currently I am up to date on the BIOS (A23) and I get no light what so ever on the laptop battery light except when I first start up or when I take it out and put it back in again it is solid green for a few seconds and then nothing. It has been charging for about an hour to an hour and half and I pulled out the battery to check it (indicator on Tool bar still says 0% remaining (charging) and I get no green lights.

If I have no other options I will see if one of my friends (he is a network Admin) has a C600 or like machine to see if it works in that but I will have to give him the Battery for a day, which I guess is no big deal since it dosn't work for me.

Any other suggestions? And thanks for your help by the way...

Yes, Downgrade to A22 version. There have been a number of POSTs about problems with A23.

ED, for every one who had something good to say about A23, there have been 2 who did not. What you say about different motherboard versions makes sense though. Also,  at one time,  Dell was including a BIOS Flash Disk with the 66whr Batteries when purchased through them. I have stayed away from that size for that reason when purchased used or off Ebay.

I have been using A23 for quite some time with no apparent problems but then again I do notice that with only 1 of the 66Whr batteries installed in the system it does take longer to boot and I get a white segmented line at the bottom of the screen that fills from left to right. Maybe A22 would be a good idea.

But I still think the charging circuit is the real problem for the OP. But who knows It could very well be a BIOS problem with his series motherboard. I believe there was 3 different motherboard that were used in the C600 model. Although the tech manual only says 2.

Why did they give me a battery other then the orginal that my laptop is supposed to have, can you still get the 56Whr? I'm wondering if this is all worth it or if I should just try to get the orginal type of battery.

Thanks Again...

OK, I downgraded, but when I downgraded to A22 I still got the same results, basically nothing...

So I downloaded and installed A18 and now the light on the side of the Lappy is staying green, wonder if this is a good sign or fi this thing is just playing with my emotions now! LOL

Anyway, I think I'll let this sit and and charge (or not charge) for an hour or two (that should be enough to see if it is actually charging or not don't think?). If it dosn't, I'll see if I can have my buddy try the battery in one of his companies machines and see if it works, if it does I'll take that means up ____'s creek witt out a paddle and will have to look into the mother board/charging hardware, correct?

Thanks again to both you guys for your help. This is the first time I have used this forum and must say, I'm really impressed with the knowledge and experiance it puts at the finger tips of people like myslef.

See if it charges 1st; it is a superior battery. While I agree with the premise of updating very old BIOS versions, there is no requirement to go to the latest if that version gives problems. Quit while you are ahead if it charges up.

You have a battery that will work, I know I have 4 of them and 2 of the original. Dell probably didn't have any of the 59Whr, the C600 did come with either a 56Whr or a 59Whr. Your notebook seems to be 1 of the early models, being 3 years old, where the 1 I have was made and shipped 10/11/2001 which is just over 2 years old. So you probably have the earlier model battery.

If you feel the need to purchase the correct power battery, The one you have is no different than the one that came with it other than the working time,  here's a link to a brand new battery. This is where I buy mine. These even have the Dell sticker on them with all the right info and a 1 year warranty.

http://www.simplemicro.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=NU-DEINBATPW

NOTE

This link came from www.pricewatch.com If you go directly to www.simplemicro.com the price will be higher.

Now you feel really bad that you bought that battery from Dell, not that it's not the right battery (It will work, I have no doubt) but because of the price you paid. The 66Whr's are only about 10-15 dollars more.

Hope it all works out and after hearing your problem I just might down grade my BIOS.

Leduke30,

I left it plugged in all night and all though the green light on the side of the machine is on, it didn't charge :-(

I'm going to have a friend of mine who is a network admin try the battery in one of his machines and see if it works. He is also going to "open it up" and make sure everything is connected and that I didn't burn something out.

Between  you, Ed C and my friend it,s like I have my own personal support team!! LOL

Thanks again for your help and I will post the results on Monday....

Ed C,

Then that is ok, just wanted to make sure I didn't get the wrong one or something.

I just called up and said I need a battery for my Latitude C600 and gave the numbers off the old one and they sent me a new one, for a price of course! LOL

I think I have done everything I can from a BIOS level so I'm goign to have a friend try it in a different machine and he is going to look inside mine and see if everything is ok there too.

I'll make a post on Monday and let you and LeDuke3o know what happened...

Thanks agian!
