A couple of suggestions:

> Uninstall the HD audio device driver and do not restart before installing the Realtek HD driver.

> Or install the Realtek driver twice. Someone posted that the first time uninstalls the generic driver and the second time installs the Realtek driver, but I am not sure of that.

The Intel chipset driver should be installed before installing the Realtek driver.

You need not fuss with drivers that much. You just install the drivers only once and let go. All you have to do to make that button work is, after installing drivers, install 'Quickset" from 'Applications' category on the 'Drivers and Downloads' page.

I finally manage sound card works, but still can't make the quickset last button work.

the quickset last button

I'm sorry but I do not understand which button you are referring to. Is it the last button on the Control Strip with the words "Waves Maxx Audio" next to it?

If that is the one and you have installed Dell Quickset, then make sure the Realtek driver is installed. Many people have reported that they have to install it twice in order for it to be successful. Look at the Sounds properties for the words"Realtek High Definition Audio". If you do not see the word "Realtek" then the Windows generic audio driver is still installed, so install the Realtek driver again.

After you have Quickset and the Realtek driver successfully installed, the button still might not work. Several people have reported that the button will not work after the Realtek driver is reinstalled.

Hi jimco

I appreciate your clear description of my problem. I've check my system, it seems realtek driver installed successfully, but still no luck to get that button worked.

I had the same problem and Dell technical support resolved it for me yesterday.

The problem is that there is a conflict between the Realtek and the Sound Blaster drivers. You need to uninstall both drivers and then reinstall them from the CDs that came with your XPS 15. (The Realtek drivers are on the drivers CD and the Sound Blaster drivers are on another CD.)

Reinstall the Realtek drivers first and then the Sound Blaster drivers. This order is very important - the Realtek drivers must be installed first.

I caused my problem by downloading updates for my Sound Blaster drivers from Sound Blaster's site. The update then caused a conflict with the Realtek drivers, and I experienced the "Realtek Digital Output is not plugged in" alert, as you illustrated in your screen capture.

Moral of the story? (1) If it ain't broke, then don't fix it and (2) only download driver updates from Dell ... at least in this instance.

I have another idea but I don't really think it will help. That is to install the older version of the Realtek driver, R292779.

I'll keep my eye out for other solutions.

Was the Realtek driver already installed before you installed the Creative software? The order of installation is important.

Nagaraj, the Creative software is an optional feature that you could have ordered at the time you ordered your computer. There is not an after-sale download of it available for your model. All I can tell you is to call Sales and ask if it is too late to buy it.

If you did order it with your computer, it might be available in your "My Dell Downloads"

You can only buy it from Dell. If they say it is unavailable then you are out of luck.

One other way to get Sound Blaster software is to buy a Sound Blaster external sound card. The Sound Blaster software will come bundled with it.
