Laptop completely broken

Question

Hi I have a dell laptop inspiron 1525 and it has completely broken down on me. System restore won't work and when I type ctrl + alt + delete, the screen goes black and it says failure logon. The laptop will start and I will get as far as the desktop but when I try to click into anything i.e firefox etc it freezes on me. I try and restart it but that doesn't solve the problem I don't know what to do. Please help!

You need to run the extended test -not the quick 10-minute one. This will take a couple of hours -- let the quick tests run, then boot to the 32-bit diagnostic (you'll see the option appear). Then run the extended test.

Hey EJN63, I did what you said and it came up as there were no problems found......any other advice?

Press F12 at powerup, boot to the Dell diagnostics, and run an extended hard drive test.
