2408WFP RevA02 still have the power saving problem and are getting worse

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE I have two monitors (both A02) that have been showing the power saving problems since I bought them. Now one of them is getting so bad that it will not wake out of sleep sometimes even with rebooting.  It's not just going to power save, but is actually dropping off of the OS Device Management. This has happened twice in the past week. There is a signal getting to the monitor, but it goes into power save right in the beginning of booting up (bios). It last for hours with rebooting and such before the monitor finally decides to wake up with no apparent reason.

I could give info for my system, but the first monitor had the power saving problem with another system.  The first monitor was purchased through Dell on December, 1, 2008.  The second monitor was purchased from another online site on December, 21, 2009, because this model was being phased out and was not available through Dell. The second monitor was also purchased during a new system build.  The second monitor is the one that has now regressed more than the original. Both are using the DVI outputs on an ATI HD5970 graphics card with the latest drivers. When the second monitor gets "stuck" in power save, it is on both DVI outputs on the graphics card. The other monitor will come on with both DVI outputs.  This little test with switching DVI outputs on the graphics cards should be suffice to rule out the graphics card.

The original power saving problem where it flickers and goes into power saving mode for a few seconds to a few minutes was just annoying.  But now that the first monitor enters power save and the system stops recognizing for a few hours is becoming more of a problem.

This problem with the power save issue has been going on since the first version. Searching the forum and Internet seems the problem is still going on with A02. The monitors are only two and three years old. This model is a higher end model using the S-PVA technology. I can't find any solutions posted for the power saving problem that keeps occurring. Are there any new solutions for this problem? I know the model is discontinued, but having to buy two new monitors does not seem to be the best solution especially when I paid $600 for both monitors.

Cybian,

Next time it occurs -
* Power off the monitor
* Disconnect the power cord from the monitor
* While disconnected, press and hold the monitor power button down for 5 seconds
* Reconnect the power cord to the monitor
* Power on the monitor if it does not power on by itself
* Press the monitor Input Source Select button and choose DVI

Thanks... I will try these steps next time when one of the monitors goes to sleep and will not wake up from the keyboard/mouse.

Hello,

I am new on this forum. Sorry the topic is quite old now but I wanted to join as I also have a Dell 2408 rev A02 and I have exactly the same problem. Chris, I tried what you suggested but it does not work for me. Is it something wrong with the monitor? Everything I tried failed so far and I have the problem every day and I loose my work sometimes because I have to reset the whole computer. My configuration is as follows: motherboard: GA-P35C-DS3R, graphic card: 9600GT 512MB, graphic card driver: Nvidia 290.53. I tried several drivers thinking it could come from that but that didn't make any difference)

thank you for your help!
