i dont think a better card necessarily runs hotter. I was under the impression that ati mobile cards already ran cooler, than nvidia counterparts, 9600 included. Is this not accurate. In anycase I dont care, I can get a cooler plate for it if i need to really squeeze some juice when im at a desk.
WELL actually you are correct. All these poeple that think that upping the frequency means straight up heat increase is wrong. read what ATI said about the 9700...30% faster at most AND it runs cooler than your beloved 9600 pro. guys, im more worried about my 3 ghz pentium 4 than anything else. and if yuou guys are so worried, just get copper piping things and solder it to the top of the video card shield and run it over the video card and to the fan. if u look at how the processor is cooled...thats it. copper piping connected directly to the fan. smart people they were (learn the chemistry behind it to see how it works before you tell me copper doesnt cool stuff down)
BUT im talking to Dell's OEM about sending me a form fitted card. they arleady have newer ones that fit the equivalent of Dell i5150s, i jsut have to convince them that they are not brekaing contract with Dell. they said that they cant sell nething that dell sells...but im telling them that dell doesnt sell it. i told them to speak with dell about the matter and get back to me. and i am near dell's corporate offices so i will raise a ruckus if anything else if dell messes things up. we are going to get those cards.
I'm talking to Compal about the matter and am in contact with them. They do have a better card that COULD fit in the 5150. its a brand new motherboard but the actual graphics card is still mini AGP and its in the same chassis as the i5150. the only problem is that they cannot sell any dell-related products so i have to contcat dell to get things cleared. if dell doesnt want my business, i will find it elsewhere =). more news later.

The new computer you have mentioned is a brand new mother board with similar ME chassis. There are some layout change for those pins connected between main board and graphic daughter card. I don't think the new graphic card will work on your system. Again, We are not allowed to sell any Dell related products to any others. Even though, if the graphic card works fine. well we ARE getting places. I'm contacting Dell's Legal department about being able to get the card from overseas. I'm going to ask dell if the card will work in the american i5150 once everything gets cleared, and if it all works we can buy it cheap from compal!!!! again, its a mobility 9600 pro with 128 mb ram. i think that good enough right now, dont you? =)
yea i was just looking at their site and coudlnt find much , do u thikn we should contact them or do u thikn that would draw too much attention to this plan an ruin everything?

This seems to be some encouraging news, but the Compal E-mail indicates that it is unlikely the new Video card will work with the 5150. Who's going to be the guinea pig?
if you really want to be the guinea pig, talk to Andrew Chen who i posted about earlier. Also, we ALL should contact dell's legal department BY MAIL! they only have a fax # and dont give out their phone #. i wonder why...
