How does it look when you plug an external monitor to it. FN F8 changes from the monitor to the LCD. Does it show on the external monitor. If not then boot your computer and press F12 when you see the dell logo and run Dell Diagnostics. Run the custom test on the LCD and see if it appears in diags. Are you sure you just did not just spill something on the screen
Are these in the centre of the screen? One thing that worries me for the future is that the screen back isn't particularly rigid, so when the laptop is closed, you can lightly jab the screen back with your finger, and watch it deform quite disconcertingly. Also, when the screen is off/black, i can see clear keyboard prints in the centre of the screen (which are easily cleaned away), and i presume, are from the screen getting pushed against the keys during transport in my laptop bag.
I had the same issue...center screen...long red vertical streaks. Called for RMA and they replaced the screen. Another month has gone by...have a new "bleed" on the left side of screen that is creeping up vertically.
I have this exact same problem too (XPS 15Z bought Oct 2011, now out of warranty).
I contacted Dell support, and they insisted that this is due to a physical internal damage to the screen. £408 for a screen replacement!!
I protested that this is a design flaw, as the screen isn't built well enough to withstand general day to day use. I can also see the same problem reported in the forums on some other Dell systems (e.g. Vostro).
I think Dell really needs to rethink their business practices on this one. I for one will never ever buy or recommend Dell again (many friends and family do rely on my recommendation).

Looks to be a design defect, IMHO.

Hi,
same issue here with a XPS 15Z from Summer 2011.
We contacted Dell Support for estimating the costs. We are out of warranty.

Hi,
that is really sad.
We were out of warranty but the notebook is essential to our business.
We paid ~ 600 EURO tax included for the panel change and the change of the fan unit.

Exactly the same issue here and the stuck pixels are gradually spreading vertically.
Very disappointed as I thought I was buying a premium product in the XPS range that would serve me well beyond the warranty period.
This is clearly a manufacturing fault given the identical symptoms.
