I can copy text from websites and paste it into MS Word, where I can print it just fine in B&W or color. I can print from wordpad, too. And, I haven't had any problems printing in Internet Explorer. I'm just unable to open the printing preferences window when using Firefox 7.0.1, and I don't have any add-ons called "Print Print Preview Update" (just Acrobat, Silverlight, Office and a few others). Firefox usually crashes when I try to open print preferences, but I am able to print, just in the default settings. I'm using a Dell Inkjet 720 hooked up to an IBM Thinkpad R51e with reinstalled Windows XP Home Edition 2002 SP3, Intel Pentium M processor 1.73GHz, 1.87 GB of RAM (added). I installed the printer driver prior to connecting the printer, and I use Avira antiviral software. This laptop has had issues in the past, but I don't want to give up on it.
I went back to Firefox 5.0.1 when they started shoving all the updates at you. My add-on would not work, and I use most of them. I sometimes still crash this version but I cope with it. If you want to go back to an earlier version of Mozilla Firefox CLICK HERE. If you go to install the older version, it will remove the newer version and install the older version.
I don't know if that's an option for me, because I also use most of my add-ons. For example, the only reason I have Silverlight is to watch Netflix online, so if it doesn't work with the earlier version Firefox 5.0.1, then it really wouldn't be worth switching. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Make a system restore point. That way, if things don't work correctly, then you can use the system restore point to go back to what you have.
I have Silverlight installed on my computer. I don't have Netflix, so I cannot try it for you. I know the guys at work watch Netflix, using Internet Explorer.
After you make the system restore point, then try an earlier version of Firefox. Maybe even try the print print priview add-on, too. See what happens and test a few thing before using the system restore point, if needed.
I haven't made a system restore point yet because I wanted to try a couple other things first: I completely uninstalled the printer and drivers, and I also uninstalled and then reinstalled Firefox 7.0.1, restarted the computer and then reinstalled the printer. Unfortunately, neither of those things worked, but I did notice that when I uninstalled Firefox, it asked if I wanted to save settings, and I said yes and it seemed to remember the Dell 720 printer in the "about:config" menu. So, maybe uninstalling Firefox without saving settings would make a difference. What do you think? I just want to do the most conservative troubleshooting first. Also, I just noticed in the "Add or Remove Programs" menu in control panel that the icon next to "Dell Photo Printer 720" is a little recycle bin, which seems a bit odd.
And, sorry to ask such a noob question, but how does one install a previous version of Firefox? On the Mozilla website, it just listed the newest Firefox 7.0.1 to download, plus some Aurora and Beta versions.
This worked. Completely removing Firefox 7.0.1 and replacing it with 5.0.1 worked and now I can open printing preferences again while printing webpages. Thank you.
I have the same problem (and error message). Is there not a way to get the printer to work with the most up-to-date versions of Mozilla Firefox (8.0) rather than having to go back to previous (and not that recent...) versions of Mozilla?
Looks like the new version of Mozilla Firefox has issues. Go to Bugzilla and make a report. Form what I'm seeing the newer version of Mozilla Firefox doesn't like to allow printing.

Loren,
Start, control panel, system, system protection,
click on create and create a system restore point.
Go to start, control panel, progeams and features. Uninstall Mozilla Firefox.
Go to...
If 32-bit...
C:\Program Files
If 64-bit...
C:\Program Files (x86)
And delete the Mozilla Firefox folder.
This should give you a fresh start. Then install the older version from Filehippo. Yes, this is a reputable website.

Clover1,
Can you copy a document? B&W and color?
Can you print from notepad?
What version of Firefox? Using any add-ons like Print Print Preview Update?

Just noticed your link in a previous post to filehippo.com for those previous versions of Firefox. It's a reputable source I would imagine.
