I would like to know this, too. Today I had a very bad experience with Dell. A search for technical support for "inspiron laptop fan always on" lead to a Dell website that gave step by step instructions on how to troubleshoot. Step 1 was to check the ventilation for dust, etc. Step 2 said to check for bios updates and sent me to the driver download site. My service tag was entered and the driver updates were listed including a bios update that was "important" and "recommended". So I followed the directions to download and install with the result being a fried motherboard. Dell is refusing to accept responsibility stating that I should have called technical support. No where on their web site did it recommend contacting technical support. I am just a few months out of warranty so they say I am out of luck. BEWARE OF DELL WEB SUPPORT. It can be very misleading!
