Miss007,

Did you recently install/reinstall the operating system? If yes, did you install the drivers in the correct order? How to Download and Install Drivers in the Correct Order

The L502x uses the Quanta H.264 integrate webcam drivers.

Did you try running the Webcam Diagnostics?

Did the webcam show in the symptom tree?

Any error messages?

I have the Inspirion N7010 and had to wipe my computer back to factory and the Dell flash image was missing or corrupt. Is there a way to get the Dell dock back and I just tried to use my webcam and all I can see is a smudge where I'm supposed to be. I have Windows 7 64 bit. Any clues? you are a user but seem to be a bit of a Guru. I know just enough about computers to get myself in trouble.

TCLucas,

Hopefully since you installed the operating system you installed the drivers in the correct order. How to Download and Install Drivers in the Correct Order

You can install Dell Dock

As for the smudge, you may have a fingerprint on the camera lens. You migght be able to clean it with a lint-free cloth, like a coffee filter.

Hello Pudgy,

I dont know if you remember my post in 2011 but I still haven't got my webcam working on my Inspiron 1545 running vista. I tried the diagbostics check but never got past the memory check. The page looked differnt to the one posted so i presume that was for a different model. What is the diagnostics procedure for a 1545?

I found that after I installed the Dell webcam central it fixed itself. I also found the link to get the Dell Dock if anyone is interested. I like it but here's the link I used: http://www.delldock.com/download_options.aspx

Greeny007,

I saw a different version of the diagnostic program on my older XP system. Since this was Vista, and the webcams were offered with Vista systems, I thought the usb attached devices test was standard.

Maybe Dell-Terry B can give some advice on how to run the diagnostic test on this system.

vostro 1320 webcam issue...  i'm the administrator on my laptop...  and an IT professional...  but for the life of me, i can't find a solution online or in help so far...

I don't get a textual message about parental controls being on but the only think i can see in the view window of the webcam central (or any other app that access the built-in camera) looks to me like it's a parental control block.  two humanoid figures, one larger than the other, and a padlock graphic in front.  parental controls are not enabled in Control Panel.  Parental controls are not enabled in webcam central (the option to ENABLE is present).  Is this a parental controls issue?  what the heck else might it be?

TIA...  Anthony

Anthony,

To remove the Parental Controls, I think you have to remove Dell Webcam Central in Programs and Features(add/remove programs)

If you have a newer system, using Internet Explorer go to My Dell Downloads :: Login Use the same email address and password you used here. Click on add system. There you can download the latest version of Dell Webcam Central.

You can also try downloading this file also known as Dell Webcam Central

When you install it, the Parental controls should be off. Since you're an IT Professional, you know how to allow this program to be used for restricted users.

Hello there

I have a Dell Inspiron n115 and my webcam cannot be detected. I read your answers and tried everything you said, but none of them worked. There is no Imaging Devices listed on my laptop, and I cannot contact customer support as I am not located in one of the countries they provide direct service to.

I would be very grateful if you could help me out. Thanks :)

Hello Rick

Yes the computer is under warranty, and I haven't changed the OS and there is no error msgs.

However I am not in the country from where I bought the laptop, so I can't go for repairs
