To isolate the problem, attach an external monitor.  Do the lines appear on it?  If they do, then it's the video card.  If they don't, it's the display panel.

I should have noted earlier I already checked with external monitor and ran diagnostics. The external monitor was a clear picture. The question I am asking is what is it that Dell fixed on all those units it "recalled" (I never received a recall communication, though the laptop was one of the models and purchased within the time period Dell blog posts identify). I have seen other threads on various fora that lead to an understanding that just because an external monitor works fine that the laptop screen is the only possible answer.

The cause of vertical lines is physical defect of the connections from the driver board to the glass panel with-in the LCD panel. I am highly surprised LaptopScreen.com panels are displaying the same issue - unless those are old stock Dell destined panels, who knows.

Anyhow, you have a 3 year warranty on this screen from LaptopScreen.com, and I would recommend you contact them. They would be very much interested in checking out the problem, so submitting a support ticket on their website with few pictures would yield the best response.

If you can submit the ticket with 'Attn: Ellis', they will take care of your warranty issue promptly.
