Thanks, I got it working by reinstalling the driver using the repair option. After that I was able to select "enable" in the Intel wifi utility and it is now working.

Unless you know for sure you paid extra for an optional Intel wireless adapter, you don't have one. The standard adapter isn't Intel - it's Broadcom.

I have the Intel Wireless adapter
What happens if you uninstall the latest driver update (or use the system restore to go back to a point before you installed it)?
