Power flickers can play tricks to wireless devices.
Power off your ISP modem/router and your wireless router(if any). Wait 30 seconds, then power on the ISP modem/router. Wait 15 seconds, then power on the wireless router(if any).
Restart your computer.
Unplug the wirerless printer for 30 seconds. Now plug it back in and give is 2 minutes to connect.
Can you scan now?
If your wireless router is set to auto channels, it can also cause this error. I use channel 11. You can also use channel 1 or 6.
Try this tweak...
Go to device manager(right click my computer, left click properties, left click hardware, left click device manager). Click on Network and then right click on your wireless adapter, left click properties, power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.
Virus program (AVG Free) was unabled to no sucess.
Enable Bidirectional Support checked, has been all along.
Tried having the 968AIO as default printer, no success.
Also tried looking in the port configuration. One thing I noticed is that I was not able to check & keep checked "Use DHCP". Was a shot in the dark that the DHCP would help, but it wouldn't accept anyway.
By searching the forum, it appears this is a common problem with not a common reason. Do you think it's because the printer is outdated & Dell is not supporting the drivers properly?
Change the security from WPA2-PSK to WPA-PSK(TKIP) Security(Personal)I also use mixed mode. I would make a new SSID to make connecting easier.
The Dell 968w Printer needs to connect to the wireless 2.4GHz section of the dual-band router(homerloew-g). Changing the security, you may also have to set up the printer to connect, like you did when you first purchased it.
The wireless 5.0GHz section can have the similar settings(homerloew-N)
I had a Dell 964 Printer attached to a Dell 3300 wireless printer adapter and I currenty own a Dell V715w Wireless printer and I do not have any problems using it wirelessly.
The changes above did not work. I appreciate all your help in solving the issue. After reading to many of the other posts here, it appears that scanning wirelessly from Dell printers is very buggy. I would love to figure out what is actually wrong but in order to elimate wasted time I believe I should just use a wired connection.
In previous posts, which I am now unable to find you talk about getting a clean uninstall of the printer drivers before re-installing them. Do you have that information available? I would like to start over with as clean of a slate as possible.

Rick,
Did not work.
I do have my wireless router set to channel 11 and the wireless adaptor uncheckd as noted.
I'm not having issues with my desktop communicating with the printer, but I assume printing & scanning communicate differently?

homerloew,
Check to make sure that Enable Bidirectional Support/Enable Biodirectional Support is checked.
Also check your virus program and firewall to see if it may be blocked.

homerloew,
Let's try a different approach.
Make and model of your computer and opertaing system. 32-bit or 64-bit? Operating system in English or another language?
Make and model of your wireless router. What type of security and what channel are you using?
What virus program and firewall are you using?
You're trying to connect the printer using the wireless adapter, correct?

Precision T7500
Xenon 2.4
12 GB RAM
64 bit OS
Windows 7 Professional
Netgear
N750 Wierless Dual Band
WNDR4000
WPA2-PSK
Channel 11
AVG Free
printer is a 968W so I assume the wireless adaptor is a built in?
Not sure if it matters, but I use a static IP from my ISP.
I can scan to my laptop which is a Precision M4300 runing XP.

Allow Wireless Printer Blocked by AVG 8.0 Firewall can be blocking your communications.

Don,
Your router have a firewall? Try turning it off.
I had a Dell 964 Printer attached to a Dell 3300 wireless printer adapter and I currenty own a Dell V715w Wireless printer and I do not have any problems using it wirelessly.
I still suspect AVG may be some of the problem.
