I've encountered the same problem with two separate Vostro 3700's. I've used two different screen brands and problem still lingers. It must be something with the Nvidia graphics driver, but i can't find any fixes.

Thanks for the reply. I've used 2 different screens, LG and Chi Mei and neither worked. I can hot plug the new screens and they work fine until reboot so it sure seems like a driver issue. I see that Innolux and Chi Mei are the same company, was your new screen branded Innolux? The original screen that came out of the 3700 is a AU Optronics, i may have to track one of those down. Thanks for the feedback!

I ended up returning the screen and replacing it with a innolux one. The vostro 3700 is very cranky about with screen it supports. Most likely it has something to do with the nvidia drivers. Anyhow Dell doesn't care since to them these machines are out of warranty.

Have either of you ever found a solution for this problem? I'm dealing with the same issue as well and would like to hear what you've done.

If i remember, it was the screen. Like the previous posted mentioned, this laptop is very picky about the screens it uses.

Exactly. This is lcd or lvds problem. It seems that driver don't recognizes lcd connected and then disabling video. You have to use prper lcd fro.dell and everything will be ok. It can be also lvds cable problem - mayby one of connections are broken and vga driver don't recognizes lcd panel connected.
