Other check: does the BIOS properly sense the AC adapter, or is it listed as "unknown"? If it's listed as unknown, the battery will never charge - try a new adapter, and if that doesn't work, the mainboard needs repair or replacement.
F2 at powerup to get into the BIOS setup.

If the power socket is bad it will not charge. That would require a new motherboard.
