The maximum capacity of all rechargeable batteries fades with time depending on the applications and usage patterns. This is considered normal; therefore, a change in battery capacity is not covered under warranty. Your battery is only warranted from defects in materials or workmanship resulting in failures. Battery life is not warranted and will vary depending on product configuration and usage. These include, but not limited to, applications running, power management settings, and product models and features.

9 Cell batteries would last longer or not based on less charge discharge cycles.

Battery Life is based on Many factors.  There are a few factors that will ACCELERATE its death.

1 is heat.  LIPO Batterys like it cold.  Hot places = Battery Die.

Keeping in the laptop = hot places = battery die.

Keeping held at 100 percent charged  = hot battery = battery die.

Charging to 50 to 80 percent and storing outside the laptop in a cold dry place helps.

You charge them once a month.   Leaving a battery out of the laptop and never ever charging for 1 year = battery die.

Typical Battery Life is 300 to 500 cycles from 0 to 100 percent.

This is why most vendors will not warranty a battery for more than 1 year.  Its also why you should buy batteries only when you need them because keeping them and not using them they still die.

Think of them like a life form that lives between 1 and 2 years.

If you feed them regularly and keep them in a cool dry place they can last for a long time.

The amount of charge they hold degrades over time.  Biggest problem is that when 1 cell fails the entire

battery also dies.   Given that 9 cell batteries have more cells than 6 cell batteries I would say that 6 cell batteries

statistically have a better chance of living than 9 cell units based on the number of cells.

# 3.7 volt battery = 1 cell x 3.7 volts (1S)

# 7.4 volt battery = 2 cells x 3.7 volts (2S)

# 11.1 volt battery = 3 cells x 3.7 volts (3S)

# 14.8 volt battery = 4 cells x 3.7 volts (4S)

What they do for a 6 cell battery is put 2 sets of 3 in parallel.

9 Cell they put  3 sets of 3 in parallel.

Problem with parallel cells is that they dont all charge at exactly the same rate so

eventually when a cell fails it kills the battery.
