Thank you for your answer :). I did check the 3d settings and it is on autoselection. I guess I'll have to call the customer service for a replacement. How long does your battery last for?
I am totally angre with you! I am having the same problem that you have now. I don't very know why the battery keeps draining that fast. Mine like can last just 2 hours. MAX!!!
I just saw this post, but I've been experiencing the same problems as you for the past year. I got a replacement computer, and I only noticed the battery life got worse.... As for the plastic, I had the same problem... again, on both laptops. They messed up the design, and should ultimately get rid of the plastic frame. Still looking for how to fix the battery life, because it should be one of the longest battery life's out there...
Sorry to hear you're still experiencing the same issue. I am too. Unfortunately I think it's a flaw in the product itself, and a lot of people seem to have had this issue; it's no coincidence. Dell really disappointed on this one, because other than that it's a great computer, and when we keep it plugged in, it's a great computer. For me I think it's too late to get the battery replaced free of charge, even though I've had this issue since I got the computer close to one year ago. I think I'm going to have to buy from a different brand next time, it's a real shame.
Gald to hear from you, and I want to tell you is that the issue is still existed. I tried to contact Dell tech, and every time they reply me with same answer:"battery life is depand on user's use."
I hate to tell this model is heavy and short battery life, and It can't fullfil my needs during my daily life.
I tired to exhaust all the battery couples months ago, and it lasted like 3 and an half hours, However, I did turn on the lowest power plan.
Right now, my battery life is about 83%, while it drops to 40%, I might ask them to replace my battery.
I had two times recplacements since the day I got this computer. They replaced the trackpad, motherboard, and the fan, since I have noticed it has some over-heart problem.
I bought this computer in march 2012, I have had to have the mother board, the battery and the cable changed. I have been on the phone numerous times to dell, extended my warranty, again the second battery does not charge. I want the machine replaced but they wont replace it, they say its just software. XPS 15 Z, highly recommended by consumer reports, this is a lemon..and no one will replace it they just keep wasting my time on the phone on a weekly and monthly basis...I do not recommend this product or this company...my inspiron was 7 years old and slow but battery problems were never an issue, plus a technician has to come out to visit to change it..its screwed in.

It seems like your Nvidia 3D settings set to Nvidia htgh perf. This disables Optimus and drains battery.
Check it out. If this is the case, set it back to autoselection. Batterry life should improve.
On the other hand, I have mine since october and noticed none of the quality problems you mentionned.
