Yes, they're the same.  It's a discrete video chip, yes - it's just not removeable/upgradeable as a card might be.

Ok. But, insteading of enabling it app by app can't I make it default? and use it everytime? also, once i enable it, will I be able to see the card in the system specs?

It isn't designed to be the default - the Intel video is the default. You can't easily tell whether it's being used or not - that's one downside of the Optimus technology at the moment.  The system will shift from integrated to discrete as needed.

You use the Optimus control panel to enable the nVidia video, application by application.

i made the nvidia card as default, and also opened apps using it . still in the detailed system specs I cant seee it . also, my graphics dedicated memory is shown as 64MB and not 1 GB. even after doing so many changes, it should show right? :$

No, it shouldn't.  Windows won't show it there.

If your system has the Optimus control panel, it does have that chip (it's NOT a card - it's a video chip, permanently soldered to the system board).

Thanks! :) . hope they show it in the system specs next time to avoid confusion.

it does not have the optimus control panel, but it has something like nVidia control panel. are they both the same? it works same as like a graphics card only right/ or is a lower version of cards?

I went to the dell store to check the same, they told that ur laptop can be faulty, pls check with the dell customer care. After some time, the same guy at the dell store says that ur card is optimus and it works only when needed. Basically, even he was not sure :)

Thre is no option to make the nvidia card default for all the apps or for the complete laptop itself ... :( .... also, i tried to open a few apps with the card, but still it used integrated graphics only.

Guys, pls check once with the dell customer care and post their reply here. coz, when I called them, they just transferred my call to different departments, but there was not even a single satisfactory reply.

Inthe nvidia control panel, it shows 1 GB, but not in the system specs and also it is hardly accessed. So, I still doubt.

Is there any kind of updated device driver which shows it in the system specs? Also, why dont they give a discrete card instead of giving on board chip just like intel integrated graphics???

Dell guys, plssssssss reply to this thread / all the questions .... ASAP
