Dell E6520 fingerprint reader with driver only

Hi,

does anybody have experience with enabling fingerprint reader in Windows 7? With my previous Dell D630 with integrated fingerprint reader I used UPEK driver from Dell. With my current E6520 I tried to use official way as described in the following document: http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriverDetails?DriverId=74YRR&FileId=2731103815&DriverName=Dell%20Data%20Protection%20%7C%20Access%20--%20Application%20Package%2C%20v.2.1.00001.002%2C%20A02

but without success. So next, I uninstalled all previous drivers and installed UPEK driver http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriverDetails/DriverFileFormats?DriverId=M7XVP&FileId=2731103758, but also without success.

Does anybody know right way? I prefer only driver, don't  need any Dell application.

Thanks a lot.

Peter

For others with the same problem.

Finally I found a solution and it is supported by Dell, you do not need any Dell application for managing fingerprints.

Here is the solution:

Custom Instructions for DELL_CONTROLVAULT-WINDOWS-BI_A00_R308326.exe:

NOTE: Installation order is very important – use the following procedure, including reboots or the software will not function properly:

1. Download the following software packages and install in the order listed below:

a. Dell Data Protection | Access | Drivers Package

  i. Double click package filename and select Custom installation Setup Type

ii. Uncheck the Dell ControlVault box

iii. Continue to follow the wizard installation instructions until completed

b. Dell ControlVault Windows Biometric Framework Driver package

  i. Double click package filename and follow the wizard installation instructions

ii. Go to the C:\dell\drivers\RXXXXXX\USH64 folder and double click on CVHCI64.msi and follow the wizard installation instructions until completed

  iii. Reboot

c. Dell ControlVault Firmware

  i. Double click package filename and follow the wizard installation instructions

ii. Go to C:\dell\drivers\RXXXXXX\firmware folder and double click on ushupgrade.exe and follow the wizard installation instructions

iii. In the pop up dialog window press the Start button

iv. When installation is completed press the Restart button. The system will reboot.

2. Enable ControlVault Windows Biometric Framework feature (Start->All Programs->Broadcom->USH Tools and click on ControlVault WBF

a. In pop up dialog window select Enable and the press the Set button.

b. Press the Exit button

c. Allow time for any windows updates to complete

I followed these instructions to the letter.

The fingerprint log-in works, but Windows now takes about four minutes to open! Previously, with just Windows password, about 20 seconds..... hmm.

It is the Dell Data Protection app that is slowing things to a crawl. Same time scale on awakening the machine from sleep. Four minutes. Ugh.

This is my first Dell computer and I have only had it three days. Not yet impressed! :emotion-5:
