It does work at all. No clicking, moving, nothing. External mouse works fine, touchpad is the issue. All other components of the computer is fine. All tests check out pass/fine.
I also own two other Dell laptops with problems of their own. Should I make a new thread for them or post here? Thank you for the swift reply.
How would I go about doing that? I have already tried using the FN shortcut, looking through mouse and keyboards settings on SetPoint, scroll through BIOS to see if there are any mouse options I can toggle, re-installing Synaptics drivers and even re-downloading them to see if the download was corrupted. Did all I could think of that might affect the touchpad in any way. Toggling the FN shortcut doesn't work with or without the external mouse. There is one thing I have noticed, in Device Manager I have one Unknown device. I believe that is probably the touchpad as that is the only device not showing up under the pointing devices category. Noticing that, I uninstalled the drivers for it and re-installed Synaptics driver with no success. Of course, restarting the laptop afterwards. I made sure I was downloading the drivers for Dell Vostro 3500 and for Windows 7 32-bit operating system. Hope this gives a good idea of what the problem may be.

It might be possible that your touchpad might be defaultly disabled. You have to change that option.
