They need 1 week for simple issue with Sound System.

Hi Mahesh, this might not be a simple repair job at if you have a failure of the impedance sensing mechanism of the jack. There is no way to actually repair it so it must be replaced and on most models the only way to replace it is to replace the entire motherboard. Some models have a smaller jack circuit board that can be replaced, but I do not believe the Inspiron 5010 has one of those.

Hello Jim,

All I expect is a simple reply "That someone is handling the issue". This is the way a technical support system works. The customer should be informed on what actions have been taken.

Even companies which sell petty goods have good support system who stay in touch with customer's issue.

If you observe from past 1 week, its only me and you who are having conversation and none of the support agents are bothered to comment on this.

Thanks,

             Mahesh

I have similar issue with Vostro V130. In my case it doesn't work properly with 4-pin mini-jack connector (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:3.5mm.jpg) which have pins dedicated to iPhone/iPod.

Hello. I am right now looking at the Setup and Features Guide for the Vostro V130 and in the picture it is clearly showing a mic jack socket and a separate headphone jack socket, not a single combo jack. These 2 jacks are located on the front edge of the laptop.

The Vostro V131 has a single combo jack on the right side of the laptop.

I believe that either the V130 manual is in error or that you have made a mistake in the name of your model, so please double check. Thank you.

Hi. I did  understand that you are using what we call a combo plug ( a TRRS plug that combines mic and headphones) but I thought that since you are using a combo plug that you have a laptop model with a corresponding combo jack socket.  TRRS plugs don't work correctly in TRS jacks. (This forum uses the USA naming convention where jack plug is just called plug, and jack socket is just jack.)

Maybe the problem is that the ground connector is in the place where mic pin is?

I assume that the headphone jack of the V130 is wired in the way you stated, tip=left, ring=right, and sleeve=ground. However I don't know how your combo plug is wired. I know that different wiring schemes are used, the mic could be either on the sleeve or the 2nd ring, and I have seen a wiring diagram where they put the mic on the tip.

@mabulta

Your suggestion helped me a lot. As you said we can opt to play music only through Headphones via Music Player. I found it in Windows media player and right now I can listen to songs only from headphone.

Any Laptop user would rarely use Speaker, so im happy with this change.

Only problem here is when I listen to songs from Internet like YouTube.

Right now im in talk with Dell Agent on replacing the Board. I would ignore it, if its about leaving the Laptop in service center for weeks.

I never expected this feature to exist as it was not suggested by anyone and ended up restoring the operating system.

Thanks,

Mahesh

FWIW, I have been having the exact same problem (including same model and diagnostics results) since two years ago, within six months of purchasing my laptop in spring of 2011. Started happening completely out of the blue. Only workaround I could find was to use some type of USB audio device, either an I/O switch or headset, in lieu of a 3.5 mm jack output device. I have not tried a factory reset...did this resolve your problems, Mahesh?
