It's a problem with the flash drive but also with the formatting, which should be ntfs. I installed the new ubuntu from another flash drive and the installation was almost ok but it's not booting on its own, only from the usb. This is because of a bug in ubuntu, but I'm borrowing a pc from a friend and see if i can make a bootable usb from my backup CD. I've been doing this all along in a mac, maybe that's the issue.

Can you use the bootable flash drive to boot another system?
