Hi Mickey,

Welcome to the Community,

For step by step instructions on how to start scanning on your network printer, you can download  and save the User Guide for your printer from the link below:

support.dell.com/.../UG_En.zip

After it downloads, open the user guide,on the left hand side under contents, click on scanning and select Using a Scanner on the Network.

Hope this helps,

Thank You

Roshan.

Hi Roshan,

Thanks for the reply, but I already have the users manual and that does not address the question.  I need to know in detail how to be able to scan from my computer in a wired network.  The printer "prints" fine from the network, but I do not know where the "paperport" is and how to acess it.  As I said in my post, I have the button on my desktop that shows "scan button" , but when I push that is shows "driver is not registered".

If you can get me detailed help on how to start scanning on this network, please email me back.

Sincerely,

Mickey

Hi Mickey,

Is the printer connected to the Server PC and you are not able to scan from the server PC ?

What kind on network set up are you using? If its peer to peer network environment than you should be able to scan from all network system provided all systems have the printer software installed.

Thank You

Roshan.

Hi Roshan,  Yes printer is connected to the server. It is a peer to peer enviornment and its prints just fine from the computer, but will not acknowleged anything else.  I deleted the drivers and software and then re-installed everything and it just does the same thing.  It prints perfectly from each computer on the small wired network, but thats it.  On the scan button, it just shows "no scan button has been registered".  Then goes to another window called scan button manager and all options are all grayed out.  Then if you go to address book editor, it says " unable to connect to device".

I dont even see anything that has to do with "paperport" which should be on the original disk.

Doesnt make sense.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Mickey,

I assume you had used the Cd which came with the printer to reinstall the driver and the software.

I suggest you can try to download  and reinstall the driver  from the link below  and see if that helps:

www.dell.com/.../19

Note:Select your correct Operating System before downloading.

Thank You

Roshan.

Hello Mickey,

When scanning over the network everything has to be confgiured thru the EWS (embedded web service) under the address book and scans go to a designated folder.

Joey
