using an external monitor with an XPS 13 ultra laptop

Is there any way to use an external monitor with the XPS 13.  It would make working with photos on the road much easier.

I have a thunderbolt to HDMI connector but this does not seem to work tried 3 different external monitors - by mini display port do you mean this port

seemd lots of dell users have problems with external monitors!!
